The cyclonic storm which lay centered over the Saurashtra-Kutch region on Friday morning is now moving northeastwards . While initial reports suggested that two people died and 22 were injured as the cyclonic storm made landfall in the state, the NDRF clarified that no lives were lost after landfall. Heavy rain coupled with gusty winds by the storm brought down over 524 trees and electric poles at various places in Gujarat, snapping the supply of power to around 940 villages.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General Atul Karwal on Friday said that no loss of lives has been reported after Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat. He also said that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in south Rajasthan by this evening, as reported by ANI.
The Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of light-moderate to heavy rain in some places in the Gwalior-Chambal region in the northern parts of Madhya Pradesh due to the impact of cyclone Biparjoy.
Several areas of Jalore and Barmer districts in Rajasthan witnessed heavy rain due to Cyclone Biparjoy, which moved towards the desert state following its landfall in Gujarat on Thursday, officials said. The weather department has sounded a red alert for Jalore and Barmer.
The India Meteorological Department took to Twitter on Friday morning to confirm that “SCS BIPARJOY has weakened into CS at 0830IST of today and lay near lat 23.4N and long 69.5E, about 30km WNW of Bhuj, likely to weaken further into a deep depression over Saurashtra & Kutch around evening of today.”

As rescuers work to bring normalcy in Gujarat, reports are coming in of death and destruction. A father-son duo died in Bhavnagar while saving their goats, a PTI report says. According to news agency ANI, 23 people have sustained injury due to the impact of storm.
'At 0230 of Today, 16th June the SCS BIPARJOY lay centered over Saurashtra-Kutch region, 30 km north of Naliya. it would further move NE-wards and weaken into a CS by early morning of 16th and into a depression by the same evening over south Rajasthan,' IMD said in a tweet.

At least three people were injured in incidents of treefall in Gujarat's Devbhoomi Dwarka district as cyclone Biparjoy made landfall with destructive wind speed and incessant rains on Kutch coast on Thursday evening, officials said. Many trees and electricity poles were uprooted near Jakhau and Mandvi towns in Kutch district while tin sheets used in house construction were blown away. Until 7 pm there had been no report of death, said Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi. “Three persons have sustained injuries in Devbhoomi Dwarka district due to treefall and are being treated. Teams of Gujarat police, NDRF and Army are working in different parts of Dwarka to remove uprooted trees and electricity poles,” he added. (PTI)
“We are well prepared and are monitoring the situation. We have begun alerting the people of the state to act in accordance with the warning (given by the officials),” says CM Ashok Gehlot on cyclone preparations in Rajasthan, reports PTI.

The control room set up by the Gujarat government for people to reach out to have received over 25 complaints so far, but none of them related to any injury or loss of life. “Control room is working round the clock. Extra employees have also been deputed there. More than 25 complaints were received at the control room today but they were about the uprooting of trees, power cuts and damage to sheds of 'kachcha' houses. But no lives lost so far..,” says Vikram Varu, Mamlatdar (gazetted officer of the State Government).

All schools in Navsari district have been ordered to remain closed on June 16 in the wake of Cyclone Biparjoy. The District Collector has issued a notification to this effect.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds lashed Morbi as the Cyclone Biparjoy landfall process commenced over the coastal districts of Saurashtra and Kutch. “The landfall process will continue until midnight,” says IMD.
The director general of IMD has said that the sea conditions will remain disturbed in the northeast Arabian Sea due to cyclone 'Biparjoy', reported PTI. He said that all fishing operations should remain suspended.

As per the IMD, Cyclone Biparjoy will hit the coast between Karachi and Mandvi and close to Jakhau port of Gujarat. “This is now located about 70 kilometres away from Jakhau port in the Arabian Sea. It is moving at a speed of about 15 kmph…Hence, the landfall process has commenced over the coastal districts of Saurashtra and Kutch…Upto midnight, the landfall process will continue..,” Dr Mrityunjay Mohapatra, Director General, IMD, said.

Delhi residents are expected to get some relief from the scorching heat in the next few days with light rains and thundershowers in the offing, the weather office said on Thursday, reported PTI. The national capital is expected to receive light rains under the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy.

The IMD has announced that the 'wall cloud' region of Cyclone Biparjoy has touched Gujarat's Saurashtra coast. The authorities have already shifted more than 94,000 persons in eight coastal districts of Gujarat to temporary shelters, as per a PTI report. For those unaware, 'Wall clouds' are clouds that drop below the regular storm cloud. They are a lowering of a solid deck of clouds and indicate the beginning phase of potential funnel clouds and tornado formation.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the intensity of rainfall would increase, with isolated places in the districts of Kutch, Dwarka and Jamnagar likely to witness extremely heavy rains. As a precautionary step, the Western Railway has decided to cancel 76 trains in the region.
