The BMW X5 features a new kidney grille with titanium finish, adaptive LED headlights with four LED DRL (Daytime Running Lamp) light rings and accent lights with auto high beam assistance and cornering lights. The SUV also has automatic rain sensors, automatic auto headlamps, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) with automatic anti dazzle and parking functions. The tailgate is also electically operatable.
The BMW X5 is offered with electrically adjustable front seats, armrests with storage compartments, paddle shifters and steering mounted audio, phone and as well as cruise controls. All variants of the BMW X5 are equipped with an infotainment system that supports USB, AUX and Bluetooth audio streaming. The higher variants are available with BMW Apps, iDrive, and an integrated hard drive in the touchscreen infotainment system. The BMW X5’s second row can be folded in three ways of 40:20:40 format and the third row can for folded flat for additional luggage space. In addition the touchscreen infotainment system has a rear view camera that aids in reversing the BMW X5 into tight spots with ease.
The BMW X5 is powered by two engine options, a 3.0 litre diesel and a 3.0 litre petrol. The diesel engine generates 258 hp of power at 4,000 rpm and 560 Nm of torque between 1,500 rpm and 3,000 rpm. The petrol engine produces 306 hp of power from 5,600 rpm to 6,400 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 1,200 rpm and 5,000 rpm. Both engines have been tuned for the best balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
Both engine options available with the BMW X5 are mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission. While the lower versions have the company’s 8 speed Steptronic Automatic Transmission while the higher variants of the BMW X5 comes with an 8 speed Steptronic Sport Automatic Transmission. Both gearboxes offer good response and have been tuned for the best balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
The BMW X5 is offered with ABS (Anti lock Braking System) with Brake Assist, CBC (Cornering Brake Control), DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) including DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and airbags.
The BMW X5 has a claimed mileage of 11.3 kmpl for the petrol version and 15.97 kmpl for the diesel trims. Both fuel efficiency figures are acceptable for its segment.
