It is World EV (electric vehicle) Day today and each year this day gains more significance with the global automotive industry slowly but gradually transitioning towards cleaner forms of mobility. Each year there are new EVs launching across the world, and some of them are able to redefine automotive technologies in different ways.
Let us look at some of the most desirable electric cars on sale in international markets that we would love to see on Indian roads sometime in the future.
Tesla Model Y
With Tesla’s entry into the Indian car market a hot topic these days, it is imperative that we keep one of its highest-selling and most popular models on top. Tesla Model Y features a long-range battery offering up to 330 miles (531 km) per charge. It comes with dual-motor all-wheel drive, ensuring excellent performance with a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 3.5 seconds (Performance variant). Its USP is a spacious cabin, advanced autopilot, and access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Ford Mustang Mach-E
Yes, this a highly controversial choice given true Mustang lovers will never accept the iconic branding on a fully-electric car. Yet, the Mach-E is able to carry over many elements from the muscle car to honour the Mustang name. More importantly, it has superior performance to back its claim.

The Mustang Mach-E offers battery options ranging from 70 kWh (standard Range) to 91 kWh (extended Range), delivering up to 312 miles (502 km) of range. It features single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD, with the GT Performance Edition producing 480 hp and 634 lb-ft torque, achieving 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
Tesla Cybertruck
Another Tesla which is often in the news is the Cybertruck. Its unique design makes it look like a vehicle from the future– the ones we usually see in sci-fi movies. Tesla Cybertruck features battery options providing up to 340 miles (547 km) of range. It comes in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants, with the AWD model producing 600 hp. The Cyberbeast variant boasts 845 hp, achieving 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds, offering extreme off-road and towing capabilities.

Volkswagen ID.2All
The ID.2all is special for many reasons but most importantly because it reminds us so much of the Volkswagen Polo. In the true sense, the ID.2all is an all-electric equivalent of Polo and given how much Indians loved the Polo, the ID.2all is a no-brainer. The electric hatchback will be a front-wheel driven vehicle with a single-motor setup kicking out 220 bhp.

It will come with two battery options– 38kWh and 56kWh. The bigger unit is said to deliver a claimed range of around 450 km. According to reports, the 56kWh battery pack could come with a 125kW charging capability that could take just 20 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%.
Baojun Yep/Yep Plus
The sale and demand of small cars may have surely declined in the past 4-5 years, yet many Indians would still go for a small-sized family car, especially if it has to be an EV. And even better if it’s an SUV. The Baojun Yep and Yep Plus may not be as popular as the other models mentioned in this list but for India it makes perfect sense. Moreover, JSW MG Motor has filed patents for both the Yep and its five-seater electric SUV in India, therefore, there are good chances that either of the models make it to India.

Interestingly, it is based on the same platform as the MG Comet EV which should make it easier for MG Motor. However, the company is yet to confirm the launch officially.
