SUVs are in the trend, and looking at the market trend over the last few months, buyers prefer SUVs. That also shows in sales numbers as the Creta was the best-seller in the segment for the last three months in a row, while the best-selling vehicle in March 2025 was also the Hyundai Creta.
Best-selling SUVs in March 2025
The Hyundai Creta leads the segment, having sold 18,059 units in March 2025, witnessing a YoY growth of 10 percent. The Hyundai Creta has been the best-seller for the carmaker for a long time now and the recent update, along with the all-electric version of the SUV has helped Hyundai rake in sales numbers and reclaim its spot as the second-largest carmaker in India in March.
Following the Creta is the Tata Punch, having sold 17,714 units in March 2025, witnessing a 1 percent YoY growth. The Tata Punch was the second best-selling vehicle in FY25, trailing the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. One of the biggest advantages the Tata Punch has over its competition is the powertrain options: Petrol, CNG, and all-electric.
The next two places are taken up by two arch-rivals, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon. Maruti sold 16,546 units of the Brezza, witnessing a 13 percent growth, while Tata sold 16,366 units of the Nexon in March 2025, registering 16 percent YoY growth. The Brezza is available in petrol and CNG options while the Nexon is available in petrol, diesel, CNG, and as a pure EV.
Rounding up the top five best-selling SUVs in March 2025 list is the Mahindra Scorpio, which has seen strong sales over the last year. Mahindra sells the Scorpio in two models — Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic — which have registered sales of 13,913 units combined. However, compared to March 2024 sales, the Scorpio has registered a decline in sales.
