In recent years, SUVs have accounted for almost 50% of the market share. This certifies the consumer sentiment favouring SUVs and high-riding crossovers over the traditional hatchbacks, and sedans. As a result, most OEMs, in India as well as globally, have focussed on developing more SUVs and crossovers which have led to numerous such launches.
Let us look at the top five best-selling SUVs for the month of March 2024.

Tata Punch
Tata Punch was not only the best-selling SUV but also the highest overall selling car for the month of March 2024 with a volume of 17,547 units. During the same period last year, Punch registered a volume of 61% which resulted in a 61% YoY growth last month. A major reason for this is the addition of the all-electric Punch EV to the lineup a few months ago.

Hyundai Creta
Hyundai Creta was the second-best SUV and passenger car sold in March this year with a volume of 16,458 units, registering a YoY growth of 17%. The compact C-segment SUV received a major facelift in January this year which could be a big reason for the growth in sales figures.

Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra made it to the list with Scorpio recording a monthly volume of 15,151 units in March this year as opposed to 8,788 units. This translated to a 72% YoY growth. The Scorpio range consists of the new-gen Scorpio N as well as the older-gen Scorpio Classic.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Maruti Suzuki Brezza occupied the fourth spot in the list of highest-selling SUVs last month with a volume of 14,164 units. Sales for the subcompact SUV dropped by 10% YoY. Nevertheless, it still remains the highest-selling sub-4 metre SUV in its segment.

Tata Nexon
Brezza was closely trailed by Nexon at the fight spot with 14,058 units dispatched to dealerships across the country in March. Sales for the crossover reduced by -5%. Like Punch, Nexon is also available in both ICE and fully-electric drivetrains.
