Tata Tiago’s prices are expected to fall between Rs 3.80 lakh – Rs 6.50 lakh
Tata Motors that recently started taking bookings for the upcoming Tiago hatchback, could be launched on March 28. For people not in the know, the Tata Tiago is the new name of the Zica which the company had to drop due to its resemblance with the ‘Zika’ virus. The new name was chosen through a name hunt contest ‘Fantastico’ in which people were asked to suggest a new name for the car.
Coming to the product, the Tata Tiago is based on the home-grown automaker’s new design language IMPACT which will be used for the company’s upcoming sub-compact sedan – Kite 5. Some of the key design elements are wrap-around headlamps, Tata Motors’ new signature grille with the ‘Humanity Line and 14-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Buyers will also be given several customization options to style their car as per their taste.
The Tiago will be offered in two engine options – a 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel and a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol – mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. While the 1.2-litre petrol engine of the Tata Tiago is claimed to produce 84bhp at 6000rpm and 114Nm at 3500rpm, the oil burner is good for 69bhp at 4000rpm and 140Nm at 1800-3000rpm.
The Tata Tiago will be offered with a total of 6 colour options – Sunburst Orange, Platinum Silver, Espresso Brown, Pearlescent White, Striker Blue and Berry Red. Set to take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai i10, the Tiago could be priced between Rs 3.80 lakh – Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
