Tata Motors has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging the most successful mid-size SUV, the Hyundai Creta, with the launch of the Curvv at a competitive price. The Curvv, following the Citroen Basalt, is the second Coupe SUV to enter this segment, and both newcomers are priced below their competitors. The question remains whether the Curvv has what it takes to dethrone the long-reigning Creta.

Tata Motors has smartly priced the Curvv, starting at Rs 10 lakh, which is a lakh less than the Creta. The Curvv comes in four variants: Smart, Pure, Creative, and Accomplished, each with several sub-options. In contrast, the Creta is offered in E, EX, S, S(O), SX, SX Tech, and SX(O) variants. The introductory prices for the Curvv are applicable for bookings made until October 31. Bookings are currently open, with deliveries set to begin on September 12.

Tata Curvv vs Hyundai Creta: Powertrain options

Tata Motors doesn’t offer a naturally aspirated petrol engine instead, it offers two 1.2-litre turbo petrol variants. The 1.2-litre Revotron engine, shared with the Nexon, delivers 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. The brand-new 1.2-litre GDI engine produces 123 bhp and 225 Nm, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine generates 116 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. All three engines come with the option of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Curvv is the first diesel vehicle made in India to be equipped with a 7-speed DCT.
The Creta offers three powertrain options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo, and a 1.5-litre diesel. The naturally aspirated engine delivers 113 bhp and 143.8 Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic. The turbo petrol engine produces 157.5 bhp and 253 Nm, available exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Lastly, the diesel engine generates 114 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
