Tata Motors continues to whet the appetite of enthusiasts as it again recently showcased the Altroz Racer at the Bharat Mobility Show. It was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. The performance-based Altroz will go up against its only rival, the Hyundai i20 N Line. ‘
Tata Altroz Racer vs Hyundai i20 N Line: Performance
The i20 N Line is powered by a 1-litre turbo petrol engine, which has a total output of 118bhp and 172Nm. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch. The i20 N Line offers three drive modes — Eco, Normal and Sport. The Hyundai hatchback accelerates from a standstill to kmph in 9.9 seconds.

The Tata Altroz Racer, on the other hand, is powered by a slightly bigger 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, which churns out 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. Currently, Tata Motors has mentioned that the hatchback will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but the 7-speed DCT automatic transmission from the Nexon could also be available.

Compared to the standard i20, the N Line version comes with additional updates like a tweaked suspension set-up for better handling, rear disc brakes, heavier steering wheel with N logo and paddle shifters, twin exhaust tips and front discs with red caliper.
In terms of design, the i20 N Line design gets an all-black front grille with a dual black and red front bumper. To enhance its exteriors further the fog lamps are chrome, 16-inch alloy wheels, all LED light with turn indicators on the outside rearview mirrors.

Tata Motors hasn’t revealed if the Altroz Racer gets any mechanical tweaks but it sports dual-tone red and black paint with white racing stripes on the bonnet and the roof. Like the i20 N Line, it also has 16-inch alloy wheels.

In typical Hyundai style, the i20 N Line comes loaded with features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, an all-digital instrument cluster, a seven-speaker Bose music system, over 60 connected functions and metal finish pedals. The interiors are all-black with red inserts and N logo on the upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel and red ambient interior lights.

The Altroz also gets all the bells and whistles like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver’s console and front ventilated seats. Tata Motors has replaced the beige interiors with a sporty all-black cabin, black upholstery with racing strips and orange switching. Both the cars get sunroof, wireless phone charger and rear air condition vents.
Tata Altroz Racer vs Hyundai i20 N Line: Safety Features
Last year, the standard i20 received a 3-star safety rating from Global NCAP. The i20 N Line comes standard with six airbags, a rear camera, hill-start assist control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) & Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), all four disc brakes and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Based on the standard ALFA platform, the Racer scores 5 safety ratings for both adult and child by Global NCAP. It gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking camera and sensors.
Tata Altroz Racer vs Hyundai i20 N Line: Prices
The i20 N Line is available in two trims, N6 and N8 and both come with manual and automatic transmissions. The manual range starts from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 11.42 lakh while the automatic is from Rs 11.15 lakh to Rs 12.52 lakh, all ex-showroom Delhi prices. As the Altroz iTurbo version starts from Rs 9.2 lakh to Rs 10.10 lakh, ex-showroom, the Racer could begin from Rs 11 lakh, ex-showroom.
