Maruti Suzuki confirmed that they will send the Baleno, Brezza and Grand Vitara for Bharat NCAP crash safety testing. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive D, Sales and Marketing, Maruti Suzuki said that three cars will undergo the BNCAP crash tests. The company hasn’t revealed when the ratings will be announced. Maruti Suzuki also announced that Fronx crossed 1 lakh sales in ten months. This is a record in the Indian market as no other vehicle in any segment has managed to achieve this feat. The second fastest Maruti Suzuki to reach this mark is the Grand Vitara.Â
Importance of Bharat NCAP for Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki has a history of scoring low on Global NCAP crash tests. Last year, two of the company’s best-selling cars, the Alto K10 and the WagonR scored two and one star respectively. Things are expected to change for the better for the automaker as both the Grand Vitara and the Brezza based on the Global C-Platform, are expected to fare well in the safety test. The Brezza has a good history as the first-generation version scored a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test in 2018.
Tata Motors was the first company to send the Harrier and the Safari for Bharat NCAP crash tests. The two SUVs were the first India-made vehicles to receive a five-star safety by Global NCAP in both adult and child safety categories.
What is Bharat NCAP?
Bharat NCAP is India’s safety assessment programme which is based on GNCAP’s crash evaluation parameters — Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP) and Onboard Safety Assist Technologies. The crash tests will receive ratings between 1 to 5 stars. In August, BNCAP was launched by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and began operations in October 2023.
