Mahindra has added another feather to its cap when it comes to safety. Its latest fully-electric offering BE 6 has scored a perfect 5-star safety rating. The coupe electric SUV has received 5-star ratings for both adult and child occupant safety scoring a near perfect 31.97 out of 32 points and 45 out of 49 points, respectively.
This makes BE 6 (as well as XEV 9e) the safest EV and SUV on sale in the Indian market to be evaluated by Bharat NCAP. The ratings are applicable to all the variants of BE 6. Moreover, the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) score for BE 6 is the second highest aggregate in the Bharat NCAP till date, falling marginally short of the XEV 9e.
R Velusamy, President – Automotive Technology and Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and Joint Managing Director, Mahindra Electric Automobile said, “The BE 6 and XEV 9e mark the start of a new era not only for Mahindra, but also for automotive safety in India. Built on INGLO architecture and powered by the most powerful mind in the automotive world – MAIA, BE 6 and XEV 9e are engineered to set new standards on all fronts of the automotive experience.”

Mahindra BE 6: Adult Occupant Protection
Overall, both BE 6 as well as XEV 9e are the highest awarded vehicles by Bharat NCAP so far. The report commended the BE 6 for providing good head, neck, and chest protection to both the driver and passenger. However, it received a slight deduction due to ‘adequate’ knee protection for the driver. In the side impact test, the BE 6 achieved a perfect score of 16 out of 16, demonstrating excellent overall protection.
The BE 6 was rated OK in the side pole impact test and it also complied with ESC test requirements. However, there is no mention of the body shell integrity or whether it’s capable of withstanding further impact at higher speeds.

Mahindra BE 6: Child Occupant Protection
In the child occupant protection (COP), BE 6 is the joint highest along with Mahindra XEV 9e, Thar Roxx, Skoda Kylaq and Tata Punch EV scoring 45 out of 49. It achieved perfect scores in the dynamic test (24/24) and the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation test (12/12). It scored 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test. Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies were evaluated using rear-facing child seats installed in the front passenger seat. These seats were secured using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.
Mahindra BE 6: Safety features
The Mahindra BE 6 comes loaded with safety features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, reverse parking sensors, seatbelt reminder system, speed alert system, and pedestrian protection as standard fitment.
