It is no big secret that Mahindra has big plans when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs). Back in 2022, the homegrown carmaker revealed its extensive lineup of upcoming electric SUVs. All its upcoming range of battery-powered SUVs will be based on Born Electric skateboard EV architecture

Mahindra will start with the production of these electric SUVs one by one at its new Chakan by the end of this year, so that it can start with the product launches by early next year. Earlier it was believed that Mahindra will launch the XUV.e8 since it is the all-electric derivative of the XUV700.

However, recent reports indicate that there might be the same change in Mahindra’s plans. As per the latest scoop by Autocar India, Mahindra is planning to launch the BE.05 by January 2025. The coupe electric SUV was recently spotted during the shooting of a TV commercial. The latest spy images show the upcoming BE.05 in its full glory without any camouflage which suggest that Mahindra is done with all the test runs for the coupe electric SUV.

Mahindra BE.05: Expected details

Measuring 4,370mm in length, 1,900mm in width, 1,635mm in height and with a wheelbase of 2,775mm, the BE.05 will rival the likes of MG ZS EV, Windsor EV, and Tata Curvv EV, along with upcoming mid-size electric SUVs such as Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti eVX. The images reveal that the final production-spec version of the BE.05 will remain in sync with its pre-production prototype revealed earlier.

The BE.05 boasts a bold design with C-shaped lights, angular lines, and aggressive vents. Its elevated stance and large wheels command attention, making it a head-turner on the road. Mahindra adds a touch of premiumness to the BE.05 with extensive piano black accents. The glossy finish on the grille, headlights, mirrors, and side panels creates a sophisticated look. However, it may require more maintenance to keep it pristine.

One of the spy images also gives us a sneak peek into the BE.05’s cabin. The highlight of the cabin is a twin-screen setup mounted on a flat dashboard, which sits under a low windscreen line. However, the standout feature is its ‘halo’ – a floating, wraparound element linking the dashboard and centre console, crafting a driver-focused cockpit experience.

Mahindra BE.05: Expected battery & motor specs

Mahindra will utilise an inhouse-developed INGLO skateboard platform with motors borrowed from Volkswagen.  As per previous reports, the BE.05 will be powered by a Valeo motor mounted on the rear axle. The motor is rated at 170kW (227 bhp) and 380 Nm, as revealed by Mahindra in August 2023. A twin-motor, all-wheel drive setup is expected to be offered at a later stage.

The BE.05 will offer two battery options: a 79kWh pack for an estimated 450 km range (WLTP) and a smaller 60kWh pack. What sets it apart is its impressive charging speed. With a compatible 175kW DC fast charger charger, the 79kWh battery can reach 80% in just 20 minutes. More details, regarding the BE.05 will be available as it nears its market launch.
