
Jeep India will launch its first locally-manufactured SUV, the Compass in India by the third quarter of CY 2017. After many exterior spy shots, the interior of the Compass has also been spied. As seen in the video and image, the Jeep Compass will be equipped with a 7.0-inch multi-coloured instrument cluster, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The steering wheel will get controls for audio, phone and cruise control functions.
The upcoming SUV will also feature an electric tailgate and a sunroof as a part of the convenience features, while the safety features will include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and dual front airbags as standard across all variants. The higher trims are expected to get reverse parking sensors, traction control and electronic stability control as well.

The exterior features of the Compass will boast of projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), LED tail lamps and black-coloured 19-inch alloy wheels. Globally, the Jeep Compass is offered with a choice of four variants, namely; Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk, however, the company might not offer the Trailhawk trim, which is the top-end version with all the bells and whistles, when launched in India.
The Compass is based on the Small-Wide 4X4 platform that also underpins the Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500X. Despite its compact dimensions, the Compass should offer ample space inside the cabin. It will measure 4,410 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, 1,640 mm in height and will have a wheelbase of 2,630 mm.

Internationally, the Jeep Compass is powered by a 1.4 litre, 2.0 litre and 2.4 litre petrol engines, while the diesel variants are powered by a 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre units. Although, there is no confirmation on the engine options for India, it is expected that the 2.0 litre mill with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission for the petrol and both diesel engines with the 9-speed automatic transmission may make it to India. The Compass will be produced at FCA’s (Fiat, Chrysler Automobiles) Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra and will be exported to other countries.
