2024 started on a positive note for the Indian passenger vehicle (PV) market. A total of 3,93,471 cars were dispatched to dealerships across the country which resulted in a 14% YoY growth and a 37% MoM growth. This reflected in the top 10 best-selling cars as well, most of them recording positive growths.
Let us take a look at the 10 best-selling cars for the month of January 2024.

Top 10 best-selling cars in Jan: Baleno takes top crown
Maruti Baleno was the highest selling model for January 2024 recording a monthly volume of 19,630 units which translated into a YoY growth of 20%. During the same period last year, Maruti dispatched 16,357 units of the premium hatch. The second place was taken by Tata Punch which accumulated a volume of 17,978 units, leading to a significant 50% YoY growth.
Punch was closely followed by WagonR in the third spot which registered a total monthly volume of 17,756 units leading to a 13% YoY decline. Maruti’s tallboy hatch registered 20,466 units. Tata Motors sold 17,182 units of Nexon which led to a 10% YoY growth.

Maruti Suzuki continued to reign supreme in the Indian market with as many as seven models in the list of top 10 cars sold in January 2024. The fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth slots are taken up by Dzire, Swift, Brezza, and Ertiga, recording 16,773 units, 15,370 units, 15,303 units, and 14,632 units, respectively. Barring Swift, other models recorded YoY growths.
Top 10 best-selling cars in Jan: Scorpio records highest growth
Mahindra Scorpio took the ninth spot after recording a monthly sales volume of 14,293 units in January 2024. The mid-size SUV registered the highest YoY growth of 64%. The Scorpio range comprises Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N. The tenth spot was taken by Maruti Fronx 13,643 units.
