From Comet EV to Tiago EV: Price of electric cars reduced in last 1 month

A dip in battery cell costs globally has led to the reduction in prices of electric cars in India.

Since the onset of 2024, a bunch of auto OEMs have updated prices of certain models. This has led to prices of several electric cars reduced over the past one month. This is courtesy of a drop in battery cell costs in the global market. Let us take a look at all the battery-powered cars whose prices have been reduced in 2024.

MG Comet EV — Price reduction: Rs 99,000

MG Motor slashed prices of all models across its India lineup. As a result, prices of MG Comet EV have been reduced by Rs 99,000. Prices of the micro electric hatch now start at Rs 6.99 lakh and go up to Rs 8.58 lakh (both ex-showroom). Available in three variants– Pace, Play, and Push– the latter two trims are now Rs 1.40 lakh more affordable. Therefore, they are now priced at Rs 7.88 lakh and Rs 8.58 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively.

MG ZS EV — Price reduction: Rs 3.9 lakh

Not just Comet, MG slashed prices of its other all-electric model– ZS EV. The compact electric SUV is now Rs 3.9 lakh cheaper than before, with prices now starting at Rs 18.98 lakh (ex-showroom) for the new entry-level Executive variant. The top-spec variant is available at Rs 25.09 lakh. The ZS EV is powered by a 50kWh battery with 174bhp and 280Nm. According to MG, the ZS EV offers a range of 461 km on a single charge.

Tata Tiago EV — Price reduction: Rs 70,000

Besides MG, Tata Motors has also reduced prices of its EVs. Tiago EV is now Rs 70,000 more affordable than before with prices starting at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom).The XT MR variant costs Rs 35,000 lower, while the XT LR is now Rs 30,000 cheaper. No changes in specs or features have been made.

Tata Nexon EV — Price reduction: Rs 1.2 lakh

Tata Nexon EV, the highest-selling electric car in India, witnessed a price reduction of up to Rs 1.2 lakh for the base-spec Long Range (LR) variant now priced at Rs 16.99 lakh. Post the latest price revision, the prices for the Nexon EV range start at Rs  Rs 14.49 lakh for the base Medium Range (MR) version, a reduction of Rs 25,000. The top-spec Empowered +LR of Nexon is now Rs 70,000 cheaper offered at Rs 19.29 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

Mahindra XUV400 — Price reduction: Rs 50,000

At the start of this year, Mahindra introduced the updated XUV400 with a price reduction. Rebranded as XUV400 Pro, prices for the electric SUV dropped by up to Rs 50,000 and now start at Rs 15.49 lakh and go up to Rs 17.49 lakh (both ex-showroom). Introductory prices for the XUV400 will remain applicable till May 31.
