Here are the top five two-wheeler brands in July 2024.

The two-wheeler segment experienced a 17.17% year-on-year growth, driven by rising demand and the flourishing rural economy in India. The introduction and availability of new products have also contributed to this surge. July marked an exceptional period for Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), which saw its sales double. This report examines the implications for Hero MotoCorp and identifies other winners and losers in July.

Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India — 4,83,100 units

The biggest gainer last month was HMSI, which dispatched a total of 4,83,100 units including domestic sales of 4,39,118 units and 43,982 units of exports. This is 43 per cent YoY overall growth as HMSI registered 3,10,867 units. HMSI also registered a 41 per cent domestic growth and over 60 per cent growth in exports. In June, HMSI sold total units of 5,18,799 units and 4,82,597 units in the domestic market.

Hero MotoCorp — 3,70,274 units

Hero MotoCorp sold 370,274 overall units in July, which is a gap of 112,826 units compared to HMSI. This is a YoY decline of 5.3 per cent as the company sold 391,310 units and a difference of 20,936 units. Hero also witnessed a dip of YoY 6.43 per cent in domestic sales as the two-wheeler giant registered 3,47,335 units in July as compared to 371,204 units in June. On a month-on-month basis, June saw 4,91,416 units domestically seeing a massive decline of 29.32 per cent.

TVS Motor — 3,39,676 units

TVS Motor secured its third position by registering an overall monthly sale of 339,676 units in July 2024. On YoY, the company saw 9 per cent growth as 312,307 units were sold in July 2023. TVS registered growth of 8 per cent with sales increasing from 235,230 units in July 2023 to 254,250 units in July 2024 in the domestic market. The Indian two-wheeler company saw a month-on-month decline of 0.58 per cent as it sold 255,734 units.

Bajaj Auto — 2,97,541 units

Bajaj Auto saw a growth of 11 per cent year-on-year as it registered overall sales of 297,541 units. In July 2023, the company sold 268, 840 units. In domestic sales, Bajaj registered 1,68,847 units which is a dip compared to June’s 1,77,207 units. On a year-on-year basis, the company filed a growth of 19 per cent.

Suzuki — 1,16,714 units

July 2024 was the first time Suzuki Motorcycle India crossed the 1 lakh sales mark in the Indian market. The Japanese company sold 1,16,714 units overall marking 8 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 1,07,836 units sold in July 2023. In the domestic market, Suzuki sold 1,00,602 units in July 2024, which is a double-digit growth of 25 per cent over last year’s 80,309 units. The two-wheeler maker exported 16,112 units in July 2024 compared to 27,527 units in the same month last year.
