Hero MotoCorp has patented the design for the Xpulse 421, an adventure motorcycle concept that was discussed at EICMA earlier this year. Now, with the patent filing, we can be assured that the launch of the new Xpulse 421 will take place in 2025, with the possibility of Hero showcasing the motorcycle at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo.
Hero Xpulse 421 — Design and features
As the image shows, the Xpulse 421 is a focused adventure motorcycle with a tall windscreen, featuring a completely new design compared to the smaller Xpulse 200 or the 210 that was showcased at EICMA. The new Xpulse 421 has had a lot of input from the company’s Dakar Rally team towards its development.
The motorcycle features USD forks, wire-spoke wheels, a monoshock at the rear, disc brakes at both ends, a luggage rack at the rear, and more. We can expect the motorcycle to get a TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, switchable ABS, possibly traction control, and ride modes. Hero, along with patenting the design of the motorcycle, has also patented other bits, such as the seat, knuckle guards, fenders, and more.

Hero Xpulse 421 — Engine specifications and competition
As far as the engine specifications are concerned, Hero has not revealed figures, however, the engine could be a 420cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit that will be tuned to make around 40–45bhp, with the help of a six-speed gearbox. More details of the engine will be known closer towards it launch dates.
When launched, the new Hero Xpulse 421 will compete with the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the new KTM 390 Adventure, TVS’ upcoming adventure motorcycle and BMW’s F 450 GS. There are chances of the motorcycle being exported as well, given the rising popularity of middle-weight adventure motorcycles in regions like Europe. If the Xupluse 421 is sold there, it will compete against motorcycles from CFMoto and Kove.
