Kalinga Commercial Corporation Limited (KCC) has executed a landmark Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) agreement with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for the Rowghat Iron Ore Mining Project in Chhattisgarh. The project, with a total outlay of ₹20,000 crores, marks one of India’s largest integrated mining and logistics development assignments.

Project Overview
The 28-year project (3+25) comprises an initial EPC phase valued at ₹566 crores, followed by long-term mining operations at 20 MTPA. During the 3-year EPC phase, KCC will develop crushing systems, long-distance conveyors, screening plants, railway sidings, and power infrastructure while handling 12 million tonnes. The second phase will see operations scale to 20 MTPA with upgraded connectivity and utilities.

Green Mining & Renewable Energy Commitment
KCC has deployed Electrical Driven Equipment/EVs in Mining Operations for reducing Carbon Emission and promoting Green Energy/Renewable Energy in line with Hon’ble PM’s Green Energy Vision.
A national statement was made by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow on November 2, 2021, where he outlined the following key commitments:
“In the midst of this global brainstorming on climate change, on behalf of India, I would like to present five nectar elements, ‘Panchamrit’, to deal with this challenge”.
- India will take its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030.
- India will meet 50 percent of its energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030.
- India will reduce the total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes from now till 2030.
- By 2030, India will reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by more than 45 percent.
- By the year 2070, India will achieve the target of Net Zero emission.
Empowering Tribal Women: The “Iron Women” Initiative
KCC is pioneering social transformation through its “Iron Women” program, training and employing tribal women to operate dumpers, drillers, and excavators. This initiative empowers local communities while creating sustainable livelihoods and promoting gender equality in the mining sector.
The Rowghat project will significantly boost regional development, create employment for tribal and local communities, and support India’s steel production goals under Viksit Bharat.
