Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party has simultaneously surprised and shocked everyone by winning 37 seats, making it the single party in the state to send highest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha. The Congress, which joined forces with the SP, won six seats as part of the INDIA bloc. Altogether, the opposition group INDIA won 43 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which was in a tough race with the SP, only got 33 seats, a big drop from the 63 seats they won in 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi won in Varanasi, but with a smaller margin of over 1.5 lakh votes compared to before. Another major setback for the BJP was Smriti Irani losing the Amethi Lok Sabha seat by over one lakh votes.

According to the latest ground reports, additional police force has been deployed at Mandi gate area in Sultanpur’s counting centre. From poll officials to contestants, people are being allowed entry in the counting centre after heavy check.
As the counting of votes begin at 8 am, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took to X (Twitter) and said that people should be vigilant around counting centres. He said that today, Election Commission is the ‘panch parmeshwar’. ‘Loktantra Zindabad,’ he said in the early morning post.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar said that special security arrangements have been made across the state in view of the counting of the votes.

According to a News18 exit poll, Uttar Pradesh, the country’s largest state, is expected to go to the NDA, with the alliance predicted to win over 65 out of 80 seats.
Confident of retaining its core Muslim-Yadav voter base and aiming to attract non-Yadav OBC votes, the Samajwadi Party (SP) fielded only five Yadav candidates in the 62 seats it contested in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha elections. Notably, all five candidates are from party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav’s family.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi contested his third election from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, facing six remaining candidates, including Congress state president Ajay Rai.
