Rajasthan Election Result 2024 Lok Sabha Highlights: Dry spell for Congress ends with 8 seats; BJP secures victory on 14

After failing to win any seat in the 2014 and 2019 general elections, Congress has finally ended its dry spell by securing victory on eight seats. The BJP, on the other hand, has won on 14 seats in the state.

Results have been announced for eight seats in Rajasthan an BJP has secured victory on seven seats. Here’s the list of seats that the saffron party has won so far:

BJP candidate Damodar Agarwal from Bhilwara has won from the constituency by 3,54,606 votes.

Bhagirath Choudhary, BJP candidate from Ajmer, has won from the seat by a vote margin of 3,29,991.

ECI has released results on three seats in Rajasthan. The BJP has won on all three seats that include Jaipur, Jalore and Rajsamand. Manju Sharma won from Jaipur, Lumbaram won from Jalore and Mahima Kumari Mewar won from the Rajsamand seat.

BJP candidate Manju Sharma has secured victory from the Jaipur seat by 3,31,767 votes.

The contest between BJP and INDIA bloc is getting intense as the counting of votes in underway in the state. The ruling party is currently leading on 14 seats and the INDIA bloc so far seem to have secured 11 seats, ECI trends show.

Trends show BJP leading on 13 out of the 25 seats in the state. Congress is currently leading on nine seats. The seats on BJP’s side include the Kota where Lok Sabha speaker and BJP candidate Om Birla is leading, Ganjecdra Singh Shekhawat is on lead from Jodhpur seat and Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal is leading from Bikaner seat, among other seats.

BJP candidate Rao Rajendra Singh is leading and the Congress candidate Anil Chopra is trailing from the Jaipur (Rural) seat, early trends as per ECI shows.

Going by the exit polls, BJP might not be able to achieve a hat-trick of clean sweeps in Rajasthan. The party won all 25 parliamentary seats in the state in 2014 and 2019 but this time, the polls are predicting that five to seven seats might go to the opposition INDIA bloc.

About 62.10 per cent of voters had cast their votes in all 25 Lok Sabha constituencies of Rajasthan.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta, the votes in the state will be counted at 29 designated centres under strict security measures.

According to information on the Election Commission’s website, the BJP received a vote share of 58.47 percent in 2019, an increase from the 54.94 percent vote share the party had in 2014.

The counting of votes for all 25 Lok Sabha constituencies will be done in a total of 4,033 rounds with maximum — 206 rounds — will be in Rajsamand and the minimum — 143 rounds — will be in Bikaner Lok Sabha constituency.

Chief Election Officer Praveen Gupta announced that the vote counting will begin at 8 am at 29 locations across the state, with all preparations complete. He stated that postal ballots will be counted first, with 63 rooms designated for this purpose. The counting of votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will start at 8:30 am in a total of 235 rooms.

More than 13,000 personnel have been deployed for the vote counting of 25 Lok Sabha seats and the Bagidora assembly by-election in Rajasthan on Tuesday. The by-election in Bagidora, part of the Banswara parliamentary constituency, was held alongside the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in Rajasthan on April 26.

The largest margin in the state in 2019 general polls was in Bhilwara, where BJP‘s Subhash Chandra Baheria defeated Congress candidate Rampal Sharma by 6,12,000 votes.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP and its former ally RLP in Rajasthan achieved an average winning margin of 3.40 lakh votes across 25 seats.

For the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has fielded candidates for all 25 seats in the state, while Congress has announced candidates for 22 seats. Congress has alliances with its I.N.D.I.A. bloc ally CPI(M) in Sikar, RLP in Nagaur, and the newly-formed Bharatiya Adivasi Party (BAP) in the tribal-dominated Banswara constituency.

For the first time since 1989, Congress failed to secure any seats in Rajasthan during the 2014 elections, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), buoyed by the ‘Modi wave,’ swept all 25 seats. The BJP replicated its success in the 2019 elections, winning 24 out of 25 seats in the state, with the remaining seat (Nagaur) going to its former NDA partner, Hanuman Beniwal’s Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP).
