Parliament Budget Session Live Updates: Discussion on the Union Budget 2024-25, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23, will continue in both Houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. On Thursday, Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi got embroiled in political controversy after his remarks in the Lok Sabha on Thursday where he said that the detention of an elected MP from Punjab, Amritpal Singh under the National Security Act (NSA) was part of an “undeclared Emergency” by the Centre. Channi’s comments sparked an uproar in the house, with the BJP demanding answers from the Congress and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. However, Congress distanced itself from Channi’s comments.

Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry slammed the Opposition for protesting against the Budget and said, “Instead of discussing the Budget, Opposition MPs are acting as if they hate PM Modi’s face.”
Congress MP from Haryana, Jai Prakash, demanded legal guarantee for MSP and termed the Budget “anti-farmer” and “anti-youth”.
He also raised the issue of diesel price hike in Lok Sabha.
BJP MP from Jammu and Kashmir, Jugal Kishore, lauded the Modi government ans said the Budget for the Union Territory promotes its development.
After the abrogation of Article 370 and as PM Modi assumed power, J&K’s development is progressing. Whether it be Congress or PDP, there were no steps taken for the welfare of youth, people of J&K. A riverfront is being built there, he said. Kishore also lauded the setting up of AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir.
As opposition members huddled in the Well of House in protest, Chairman Jadgeep Dhankhar urged members to sit and said, “This is unbecoming of you”.

Health Minister JP Nadda said that we provide 106 medicines and 14 tests free in all centres. Many programmes have been initiated in the last 10 years on the district level.
On Friday, Congress MP from Ludhiana, Amrinder Singh Warring, asked whether medicines for cancer patients below the poverty line can be made free.
Responding to the query, Health Minister JP Nadda said, “PM Modi govt has taken many steps such as cancer care units, Ayushmann Bharat. 50 crore people have been given assistance by the govt. Steps are being taken to add poor people to the schemes as well.”
The discussion on the Union Budget 2024-25, presented on July 23, continued in both Houses of Parliament on Thursday. The Opposition accused the Union Budget of being “discriminatory” and favouring certain states to protect coalition government.
