Parliament Monsoon Session 2023 Highlights: Day 2 of the debate on the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government raised the heat in the lower house after Day 1 of the debate saw the Congress and Union Ministers locking horns over the situation in Manipur which has been witnessing ethnic clashes since May.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday led the Opposition’s charge in Lok Sabha during the debate on the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha. In a no-holds-barred attack against the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul sought to equate the Prime Minister with ‘Ravana’ and said that “Bharat Mata had been murdered in Manipur”.
Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani countered Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Manipur in Lok Sabha. Irani said this was the first time someone spoke about the “murder of Bharat Mata” in Parliament and that she condemned Rahul Gandhi’s behaviour in the House.
The no-trust debate is expected to continue till Thursday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give his reply.

Amid chants of 'Adani, Adani', Smriti Irani drew a connection between Adani and Congress and said, “If Adani is so bad what is Rahul Gandhi's jeeja jee (brother-in-law) doing with him? I have a piece of photo evidence too.”
Smriti Irani recounted horrors of Emergency to attack Congress, says “their history is smeared in blood”.
“Only a misogynistic man can give a flying kiss to women MPs in Parliament. Such an instance was never witnessed before. This shows what he thinks of women. This is obscene,” said Smriti Irani in Parliament.
Her remarks came as Rahul Gandhi gave a flying kiss to BJP members in Parliament while leaving.

Smriti Irani said, “Our Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Home Minister Amit Shah and even Defence Minister Rajnatjh Singh said we were ready to discuss the Manipur issue, but they (Opposition) were not ready. Because they knew that when we would start speaking, new levels of issues will unravel and then they would become speechless. They ran, not us.”

BJP leader Smriti Irani addressed Lok Sabha during the no-trust debate and said, “Article 370 will never be re-instated in India, and the Kashmiri Pandits will get justice.”
Countering Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Manipur, Union Minister Smriti Irani said, “Manipur is not divided. It is a part of India. It can never be divided.”
“He (Rahul Gandhi) talked of Bharat Mata's death and Congress leaders clapped. You are not INDIA for India is not corrupt. India doesn’t believe in dynasties. Corruption Quit India, Dynasty Quit India,” says Smriti Irani as she begins her speech in Lok Sabha.
Rahul Gandhi recalled a conversation with a woman whose son was shot dead in Manipur. Quoting the woman, he said, “The entire night, I was lying with my son's body. I was scared and I left my home.”
He said, “India has been murdered in Manipur.”
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, “A few days back, I went to Manipur. Our PM didn't go, not even to this day, because for him Manipur is not India.”

Rahul Gandhi slammed the ongoing violence in Manipur and said, “You (BJP) have divided Manipur into two parts.”
Rahul Gandhi kicked off the no-trust debate in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, and began by chiding the BJP, “You (BJP) don't need to be scared today, my speech is not about the Adani issue.”

Union Minister Narayan Rane lost his cool amid a no-confidence vote debate in the Lower House on Tuesday. Apparently angered by Arvind Sawant, Rane dared the Uddhav Thackeray-camp MP to utter against the prime minister. His behaviour and choice of words have drawn severe flak from the Opposition.
“Rahul Gandhi will speak today. He will begin from our side at 12 noon,” Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, told ANI.

Lok Sabha witnessed a heated debate on the no-confidence motion, which commenced on Tuesday. The motion of no-confidence, brought forth by Congress’ deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, occurred amidst the backdrop of the ethnic violence in Manipur.
