Lok Sabha Election Dates, Full Schedule: Amid much anticipation for the Lok Sabha 2024 poll schedule, the Election Commission of India will announce the full schedule on Saturday, March 16.

Earlier there were reports that the the dates might be announced on Thursday. However, the Spokesperson of Election Commission of India made a post on X, formerly Twitter, and officially announced that the poll dates will declared tomorrow, March 16.

In the face of strong opposition from the Congress, a panel led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed two former bureaucrats as election commissioners on Thursday. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar were selected for the roles ahead of the impending announcement of the Lok Sabha polls. 

Initially, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary addressed the media about the names following a crucial panel meeting. However, later, the law ministry issued an official notification confirming the appointments.

Meanwhile, the electoral bond data from the State Bank of India (SBI) was also made available on the poll panel’s website. This release occurred just a day before the Supreme Court’s mandated deadline of March 15. The data pertains to the purchase of electoral bonds ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1 crore, dating back to April 12, 2019. It includes a list of purchasers, encompassing both private companies and individuals.

With the Lok Sabha polls looming, the BJP has confirmed the names of more than 250 candidates, while the Congress has disclosed 82 candidates so far. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, vying for a third term, will run from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Conversely, Rahul Gandhi of the Congress is set to compete in Kerala’s Wayanad. However, uncertainty surrounds whether Gandhi will also contest from Amethi in UP. Additionally, there are speculations about his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, entering the fray from Raebareli.
