Modi 3.0 Cabinet, NDA Government Formation Highlights: BJP leader Narendra Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term on Sunday at 7.15 PM. President Droupadi Murmu appointed Modi as the prime minister-designate on Friday after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief J P Nadda handed her a letter on Modi’s election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party and NDA leaders submitted their letters of support. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the saffron party won 240 seats, falling short of the halfway mark in the 543-member House, but the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) together won 293 seats, a comfortable majority in the lower House.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh referred to Narendra Modi as “one-third PM” of the NDA and said that the BJP declared him as the chosen leader of the NDA despite the NDA Parliamentary party yet to meet. The remark case after the PM mocked Congress for questioning the BJP’s success despite winning only 99 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
“The BJP Parliamentary Committee did not meet but the NDA appointed one-third of the Prime Ministers in advance. This was done because Narendra Modi was not sure whether the elected MPs of the BJP would choose him as their leader or not… This is a direct proof of personal uncertainty and frustration of Narendra Modi, who himself won with very few votes. He has done a ‘bypass surgery’ of the BJP MPs,” Ramesh said.
PM-designate Narendra Modi on Friday claimed that the NDA government will script a new chapter of development and good governance in the coming 10 years. Modi‘s remarks came during a meeting of NDA leaders in the Central Hall of the old Parliament building.
The Congress and Samajwadi Party have claimed that Jayant Chaudhary and the Rashtriya Lok Dal were insulted during the meeting of NDA leaders in the old Parliament building earlier today. The two UP alliance partners have claimed that Jayant was made to sit among MPs and did not find a place on the dais among the dignitaries of the alliance. Jayant was seen sitting in the front row while alliance leaders including Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Eknath Shinde, HD Kumaraswamy and Anupriya Patel, were seated along with BJP leaders. Jayant, however, dismissed the Congress-SP’s claim and said that not finding space on the dais was “no big deal”.
Narendra Modi is set to take oath as the Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on June 9. While a host of foreign dignitaries are among the invitees to the event, some very special guests are also likely to grace the occasion. As per media reports, labourers who worked at the Central Vista project, Railways staff who worked on the Vande Bharat project and the Metro projects, members from the transgender community, sanitation workers who worked with the public health department, beneficiaries of various government schemes and the Viksit Bharat Ambassadors are among those who are also likely to attend the oath ceremony.
Bihar Chief Minister and NDA leader Nitish Kumar on Friday said that the Opposition INDIA bloc would be left with no seats in the next election. Taking a swipe at the Opposition, Nitish said, “We have seen them (Opposition) win a few seats here and there… When you contest after five years, there will be nothing left for the Opposition to win. They will be finished. They have never worked for the nation and people will reject them. We are firmly with you and I am confident that the country and Bihar will reach newer heights of progress under your leadership.”

Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi called on veteran BJP leader LK Advani at the latter’s residence. Modi visited the former Deputy PM’s house after being chosen as the leader of the NDA parliamentary party today. He is set to take oath as the PM at 6 PM on Sunday.

Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the Prime Minister of the country for the third consecutive term on Sunday. According to senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi, Modi’s swearing-in ceremony will take place at 6 PM at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. It is expected that the full Modi 3.0 Cabinet will take oath along with the PM.
Endorsing Rajnath Singh‘s proposal to appoint Narendra Modi as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu said that the nation is in a crucial phase of growth at the moment. “It is now or never… Across various countries, their growth rate is hovering around 2-3 per cent… The Opportunity for India is tremendous… And I am happy that India has the right leader at the right time in the form of Narendra Modi.. For 10 years, he has worked without taking rest, and I am sure he will continue to take India on the path of development,” Naidu said during the meeting of NDA leaders in Delhi.

Narendra Modi arrived at BJP stalwart Lal Krishna Advani’s residence to seek his blessings before meeting President Droupadi Murmu and staking claim to form the government, the third consecutive time for the National Democratic Alliance.
Narendra Modi advised the newly-elected MPs of the NDA not to fall for rumours on Cabinet formation and the distribution of portfolios. He said the decisions will be formally communicated through the right channels to MPs and that they should not believe any rumours on social media or TV channels.
Narendra Modi said that the NDA government will have no time to lose as the work needs to begin on war footing to make India the third largest economy in the world.
Narendra Modi said that people were lining up outside Congress offices to demand Rs 8,500 as promised to them by the party leaders. Modi said that the Congress party made false promises to voters in order to mislead them during elections, Modi said.
The people of the country have decisively rejected the INDIA bloc alliance and it is because of their identity of scams and negativity that they have been relegated to the Opposition once again, Modi said in his address to the NDA leaders. “Their identity is of scams… Despite changing their names, they could not shed their identity… They lost again because of their agenda of uniting only to oppose one man.”
Narendra Modi congratulated the MPs from Opposition parties for getting elected and hoped that they would rise above party interests to constructively participate towards the betterment of the country.
Narendra Modi said that the Opposition tried to spin a narrative that the NDA have lost the elections. “We were in power in 2014, we were in power in 2019, we are in power in 2024 and NDA will remain in power for the coming decades as well.”
Narendra Modi hailed the transparency and fairness of the election process in India and said that the Opposition was part of a conspiracy to discredit the election process. “EVM zinda hai? Laga to that ki June 4 ko arthi nikal jaegi,” the PM said, mocking the concerns raised by INIDA bloc leaders over EVMs ahead of the results.
Narendra Modi said that the BJP‘s inroads into Kerala is a landmark moment for the NDA. “Several of our party workers sacrificed their lives… The situation in Kerala was worse than Jammu and Kashmir… Yet, it is for the first time that Parliament will have our representative from Kerala. It is not an ordinary development.”
Narendra Modi on Friday said that the National Democratic Alliance is the most effective pre-poll alliance that India has ever seen and assured the people of the country that the government will no stone unturned to take the nation forward.

Senior BJP leader Amit Shah on Friday seconded the proposal by Rajnath Singh to elect Narendra Modi as the Leader of the NDA. The process to elect the new leader of the NDA was undertaken at the Central Hall of the old Parliament building.
Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh moved a resolution to elect Narendra Modi as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance, paving the way for him to be appointed as the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term.
Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu earlier on Wednesday to tender his resignation and is set to meet her again with letters of support from NDA parties to stake claim to form the government on June 7 after deliberations took place among the NDA allies who pledged support for Modi.
In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the NDA won 293 seats, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alone winning 240 seats. With this tally, although far narrower than what the exit polls suggested, the formation of a new coalition government at the Centre is imminent. According to media reports, the oath-taking ceremony will now take place on June 9, instead of earlier decided date of June 8. Narendra Modi is set to assume the Prime Minister’s Office for the third consecutive term. The new Cabinet of Modi 3.0 is also likely to take oath on the same day.
