Two other exit polls by ABP News-CVoter and News24-Chanakya also put BJP ahead of Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While ABP News-CVoter exit poll sees 4-6 seats for BJP and 4-6 for India Bloc, News24-Chanakya exit poll has 6 seats for BJP and 4 seats for India Bloc.
Exit polls by India Today-Axis My India and Republic TV-PMarq show a clear majority for the BJP with up to 8 seats while India Bloc is expected to settle with 2-4 seats as per India Today-Axis My India exit poll and only 2 seats as per Republic TV-PMarq exit poll.
Multiple exit polls out on June 1 predicted majority for the BJP. Beginning with the News 18 Mega Exit Poll, BJP is expected to clinch at least 5 seats but may go up to seven seats while India Bloc is likely to see maximum five seats and minimum three, reviving from the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
From 30 MLAs currently in Haryana, the count could grow to 33 for Congress with the support of three independent MLAs even as it would still require 12 MLAs to gain the majority. However, with the JJP’s support, the Congress may put up a fight.
In March this year, BJP’s MP from Hisar Brijendra Singh had resigned from the party and joined the Congress party hours later. Singh had cited political and ideological differences on issues related to farmers, the Agniveer scheme and wrestlers’ protests among reasons for his resignation.
BJP would require the backing of 45 MLAs for it to cross the halfway mark. Last month, the party claimed that four JJP MLAs may support its government if required, taking BJP’s total strength to 47 in Haryana.
Out of the current strength of 88 members (reduced from 90) in the Haryana assembly, the BJP has around 43 MLAs on its side after the three Independent MLAs, out of a total of six earlier, withdrew their support to the Nayab Singh Saini-led government in the state.
While BJP had a clean sweep in Haryana during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it may not be an equally smooth ride for the party this time. The grand old party Congress, contesting on nine seats, is battling BJP in a seat-sharing arrangement with the Aam Aadmi Party, contesting on one seat, in the INDIA bloc.
According to a report by The Indian Express on May 29 quoting the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal, the average voter turnout in Haryana, polled on May 25, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was 64.8 per cent. This was down from 70 per cent during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
BJP, the ruling party BJP in the state, would be looking to replicate its 2019 victory across all 10 Lok Sabha seats: Ambala, Kurukshetra, Sirsa, Hisar, Karnal, Sonipat, Rohtak, Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, Gurugram and Faridabad. The party had a vote share of around 58 per cent in 2019, fighting the Indian National Congress (INC), JJP and Indian National Lok Dal in the opposition.
