According to News 18 trends, Mahayuti is racing ahead in Maharashtra with 50 seats while Maha Vikas Agadhi is at 27. However, India Today trends as of 8:49 am shows a close contest between the two key parties with Mahayuti at 66 seats and MVA at 62.

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla expressed confidence that the NDA will form the government in both Jharkhand and Maharashtra under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He pointed to the exit polls, which indicated a strong performance for the NDA, and anticipated that the final results would confirm their victory. Poonawalla also criticized the INDIA alliance for raising questions about the EVMs before the results were even announced, suggesting that they were already concerned about their impending defeat.

It’s still early to make any definitive announcements, but after half an hour of counting postal ballots, the BJP-led NDA is currently ahead in 16 seats in Jharkhand. Meanwhile, the INDIA alliance, spearheaded by Hemant Soren’s JMM, is leading in 6 seats.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has secured letters of support from over 160 candidates, including some independents, pledging their allegiance to the alliance for forming the next government in Maharashtra, should they emerge victorious. These letters, signaling the backing of the candidates, will be submitted to the governor once the election results are declared, according to sources. The MVA alliance consists of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), the NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar, and the Congress party.

According to News 18, early trends in Maharashtra show Mahayuti in the lead with 34 seats and MVA at 15 and others at 2. As per India Today early trends also, Mahayuti is in the lead with 39 seats and MVA shows to have gathered 8 seats.

Deputy SP of Pune Rural, Sudarshan Rathore, outlined the security measures in place, following the Election Commission’s guidelines. He explained that a three-tier security system has been established, with inner, middle, and outer cordons. Everyone entering the premises is being thoroughly checked, and mobile phones are prohibited inside. Around 250 security personnel and 20 officials are deployed to ensure smooth operations. In Baramati, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar of the NCP (Mahayuti) is contesting against Yugendra Shriniwas Pawar of NCP-SCP (Maha Vikas Aghadi).

Maharashtra, once a Congress stronghold and India’s wealthiest state, is now a political maze of shifting alliances. After the 2019 elections, where the BJP won 105 seats and the Shiv Sena 56, their alliance collapsed. Ajit Pawar briefly supported BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis, but quickly backed out, leading to Fadnavis’s resignation. The Maha Vikas Aghadi, including Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP, took power with Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar as his deputy. This government fell when Eknath Shinde rebelled, forming an alliance with the BJP. Today, Shinde is Chief Minister with Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as his deputies.

Since Jharkhand was carved from Bihar in 2000, seven politicians have served as its Chief Minister, but only Raghubar Das has held the position for a full five-year term. The state has never seen a single party secure a majority in any of its five Assembly elections. The BJP and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) have consistently been the dominant political forces in the region. In 2019, however, the BJP’s seat count plummeted to 25, while the JMM-Congress alliance secured a majority. Hemant Soren assumed the Chief Minister role once again, but was forced to resign earlier this year following his arrest in connection with an alleged land scam. Soren appointed senior JMM leader Champai Soren as his replacement, only to reclaim the position on July 4 after his release from jail. A disgruntled Champai Soren has since joined the BJP.

The 2019 Maharashtra elections marked a significant shift in the state’s political dynamics, as the BJP and Shiv Sena parted ways after years of alliance. This resulted in a hung assembly and the imposition of President’s Rule. The Shiv Sena then engaged in talks with the NCP and Congress to form a government. Just as they seemed set to take power, BJP leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unexpectedly took the oath as Chief Minister in a surprise ceremony, with NCP’s Ajit Pawar supporting him, defying his uncle, party patriarch Sharad Pawar. However, Fadnavis’s government lasted only 80 hours, as the Supreme Court ordered a floor test, leading Ajit Pawar to rejoin the NCP and forcing Fadnavis to resign. Uddhav Thackeray was sworn in as Chief Minister, leading the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government with Congress and NCP support.

The MVA government lasted until 2022 when Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde led a rebellion, aligning with the BJP. Shinde, along with 39 MLAs, weakened Thackeray’s government, leading to his resignation. Shinde became Chief Minister, with Fadnavis as Deputy. This turmoil spread to the NCP, with Ajit Pawar also joining the BJP, further splitting his party.

Axis My India‘s exit poll diverged significantly from the majority of other polls, forecasting a decisive win for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress coalition. According to their projections, the INDIA alliance is expected to secure 53 seats. In contrast, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is predicted to triumph, with an aggregate poll suggesting the alliance will claim between 42 and 53 seats.

Most exit polls have forecasted a disappointing outcome for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and a decisive victory for the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra. According to Axis My India Exit Poll, the Mahayuti is projected to secure 189 seats, while the MVA is expected to win 90 seats. In Jharkhand, the BJP-led NDA is predicted to replace the ruling INDIA bloc, with the majority of exit polls indicating a shift in power. These results were largely consistent across the exit polls released on Wednesday.

In the Mahayuti alliance, the BJP is vying for 148 seats, Shiv Sena (under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde) is contesting 80, and NCP (led by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar) is competing for 52 seats. Additionally, six more seats feature Mahayuti candidates.

Meanwhile, the MVA alliance has Congress contesting 102 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) fighting for 96, and NCP (SP) targeting 86 seats. The Samajwadi Party and other smaller allies in the MVA are each contesting two seats.

As Maharashtra prepares for the Assembly Election Results, several political leaders were seen visiting the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Temple on Friday morning to seek divine blessings. Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde and son of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was among those who offered prayers. He was joined by Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse, a BJP MP from Raver, who also prayed at the temple. Raksha Khadse is married to Nikhil Khadse, son of senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse. BJP leader Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes, also visited the temple to seek blessings. These visits come as political leaders and parties eagerly await the assembly election results.

Ahead of the vote counting for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari expressed confidence that as the counting progresses, the BJP-NDA will secure an absolute majority in both states. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the people of Maharashtra and Jharkhand would reject Rahul Gandhi‘s divisive politics. Bhandari also highlighted the significant participation of women voters, believing they would play a key role in determining the outcome. Drawing a parallel to Haryana’s rejection of Congress, he stated that Maharashtra and Jharkhand would choose the development agenda championed by Modi.

Arrangements have been made for the counting of votes in the Jharkhand assembly elections and bypolls across 48 assembly and two Lok Sabha seats in 15 states. The counting started at 8 am, with initial trends anticipated to be available in Maharashtra and Jharkhand within the next two hours.

Ahead of the vote counting for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra, visuals emerged from various counting centers across the state on Saturday morning. The counting, which began at 8 am, was being closely monitored. In Mumbai’s Mahim and Nagpur South West, where prominent candidates like Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Praful Vinodrao Gudadhe of Maha Vikas Aghadi are contesting, preparations were underway. Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate from Wadala, Shraddha Jadhav, expressed confidence in her party’s victory, stating that the results would confirm Maha Vikas Aghadi’s return to power.

Ahead of the vote counting, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey stated that the people of Jharkhand have clearly expressed their support for Hemant Soren’s return, with strong backing from women, students, and the general public. He emphasized that the enthusiasm seen during the campaign and on election day indicates the party’s confidence in securing a resounding majority and returning to power.

On counting day, the strong room is opened under videography, with candidates, their representatives, the Returning Officer (RO), Assistant Returning Officer (ARO), and ECI Observer present. The Control Units (CUs) of the EVMs, which have been securely stored, are brought to the counting hall under CCTV surveillance and in the presence of candidates or their agents. Each CU is checked for seals and serial numbers before the votes are retrieved. Counting agents verify the votes displayed on the CUs against Form-17C, and candidate-wise vote tallies are recorded. EVMs and VVPATs are stored securely until the election petition period ends.

Key candidates in the Jharkhand elections include former chief minister Champai Soren who is running as a BJP candidate from Saraikela. Purnima Das Sahu, the daughter-in-law of former CM Raghubar Das, is contesting from Jamshedpur East on the BJP ticket. Former BJP leader Saryu Roy is standing as a Janata Dal (United) candidate from Jamshedpur West. Mahua Maji of the JMM is facing off against C.P. Singh of the BJP in Ranchi.

Other notable candidates include Chief Minister Hemant Soren who is running from Barhait, his wife Kalpana Soren from Gandey, and his brother Basant Soren from Dumka. Babulal Marandi, BJP state president, is contesting from Dhanwar, while Amar Kumar Bauri is in the race from Chandankiyari. Sita Soren, the daughter-in-law of Shibu Soren, is contesting from Jamtara, and Sudhesh Mahato, president of the AJSU, is running from Silli.

Several key figures are contesting the Maharashtra 2024 elections, with notable candidates across multiple constituencies. Eknath Shinde, the current Chief Minister and leader of Shinde Sena, is contesting from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi seat, maintaining a stronghold in Thane. Nana Patole, state Congress president, is vying for a third term from Sakoli amid controversy over a bitcoin misappropriation allegation.

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is seeking a sixth consecutive term from Nagpur South West, a seat he has historically dominated. Aaditya Thackeray of Shiv Sena (UBT) is defending his victory from Worli, where he gained significant recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic. Milind Deora, former MP from South Mumbai, is contesting his first election with the Shinde Sena from the same constituency. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar seeks an eighth term from Baramati, where he faces his grandnephew. Other candidates include Zeeshan Siddique, Harshvardhan Patil, Praful Gudadhe-Patil, and Yugendra Pawar.
