Dozens dead after blast in southwestern Pakistan at a rally celebrating birthday of Islam’s prophet
A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up among a crowd of people celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday in southwestern Pakistan on Friday, killing at least 52 people and wounding nearly 70 others, authorities said, in one of the country’s deadliest attacks targeting civilians in months.An open area near a mosque was left strewn with the shoes of the dead and wounded, TV footage and videos on social media showed. Fire at Delhi’s Azadpur Mandi
Azadpur Mandi, the biggest wholesale vegetable market in Asia, experienced a significant fire on Friday. According to officials, the fire has since been put out. At 5.20 pm, there was a call regarding the incident, and 11 fire tenders hurried to the scene. The fire was put out by 6.30 p.m., according to the authorities.
Canada issue discussed with Blinken: Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said that the Canadian allegations with regard to the death of a Khalistani separatist was discussed during his meeting with the Secretary of State Tony Blinken a day earlier and noted that the two delegations came out better informed after the meeting. Gazette notification issued for the Women’s Reservation Bill
President Droupadi Murmu’s approval of the Women’s Reservation Bill results in a gazette notification from the Indian government. Now, it will be officially known as the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act. According to its provision, “It shall come into force on such date as the central government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.”

ISKON sues BJP leader Maneka Gandhi
ISKON has sued senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi. According to the latest reports, the religious group has sent a Rs 100 crore defamation suit to Gandhi. “The comments of Maneka Gandhi were very unfortunate. Our devotees across the world are very hurt. We are taking legal action of defamation of Rs 100 Crore against her. We have sent her a notice today. How can an MP, once a Union Minister, lie without any evidence against such a big society,” asked ISKCON Kolkata’s Vice-President Radharamn Das.
Punjab farmers block Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway
Farmers in large numbers squatted on rail tracks in parts of Punjab on Friday, while another group of cultivators blocked the Chandigarh-Ambala national highway as part of their stir to demand a financial package for losses incurred in floods, a legal guarantee to MSP and a sweeping debt waiver. As part of the three-day ‘rail roko’ protest, farmers squatted on the Amritsar-Delhi railway track in Devidas Pura, while in Hoshiarpur, members of the Azad Kisan Committee, Doaba, sat on dharna at the local railway station. Hindustan Zinc to spin off commodities into separate companies
Hindustan Zinc on Friday said it plans to create separate entities for its zinc, lead, silver and recycling businesses to unlock “potential value” and will appoint external advisors to review its corporate structure. Shares of Hindustan Zinc surged as much as 6.6% after the announcement, while parent Vedanta Ltd jumped as much as 7.8% Hindustan Zinc’s plans come at a time when Vedanta Ltd is also planning to separate its commodities businesses into multiple companies for better valuations. Jalan Kalrock Consortium infuses Rs 100 core in Jet Airways
Jalan Kalrock Consortium, the winning bidder for the revival of grounded carrier Jet Airways, on Friday said it has infused an additional Rs 100 crore in the airline as per the court-approved resolution plan. With this, the consortium has “fulfilled” its total financial commitment of Rs 350 crore to revive the airline, which would pave the way for it to take over the ownership of Jey Airways, JKC (Jalan Kalrock Consortium) said in a statement. JKC also said it is expecting the airline to be up and running next year with the launch date likely to be announced in the next few days. Jet Airways has not flown since April 17, 2019. (PTI)
Putin meets former Wagner commander Troshev
Russian President Vladimir Putin was on Friday shown meeting one of the most senior former commanders of the Wagner group and talking about how volunteer units could fight in Ukraine but the Kremlin said the mercenary now worked for the defence ministry. The meeting underscored the Kremlin’s attempt to show that the state had now gained control over the mercenary group after a failed June mutiny by Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was killed in a plane crash in August.
