In a first, an exclusively female tri-services contingent will participate in the Republic Day parade for the first time. Departing from tradition, the parade will commence with over 100 women musicians showcasing their skills on Indian musical instruments, replacing the customary military bands. The Indian Air Force’s fly-past will feature approximately 15 women pilots, symbolizing ‘Nari Shakti’ or women power. Notably, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) contingents will exclusively comprise women personnel. This historic inclusion marks a significant stride towards gender inclusivity and empowerment in India‘s Republic Day celebrations.

The distinction arises from the protocol observed during Republic Day, where the President of India initiates the event by unfurling the flag at Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath, originally named Kingsway), adorned with flowers, marking a departure from the tradition observed on Independence Day when the prime minister hoists the flag at Red Fort.
