German carmaker Volkswagen sold more sausages than cars last year — 8.5 million sausages against 5.2 million cars in 2024. This is a fact and for those of you unaware, the 30 workers – including the butcher who is on VW’s Payroll – sold more sausages than a highly advanced car company that uses robots.
Volkswagen sausages — Why though?
Volkswagen got into making sausages back in 1973, and started serving currywurst to workers at its Wolfsburg HQ. And you know what’s more interesting? They even have their own part number — 199 398 500 A. Foodies can buy the OEM VW sausages in 12 countries across the globe in places such as football stadiums, corporate cafeterias, and supermarkets.
Apart from selling over 8 million sausages last year and witnessing a 2 percent YoY growth, the carmaker also sold 6,54,000 bottles of its famous spiced ketchup bottles in 2024.
Volkswagen in other news
Apart from making a profit selling sausages, Volkswagen has gotten itself in a spot of bother in India for evading taxes worth billions. Indian tax authorities filed a complaint with the Bombay High Court in November 2024 accusing Volkswagen of evading taxes worth $1.4 billion (Rs 11,847 crore) in taxes for paying lesser import tax on components for its cars.
