The Audi A3 is a locally assembled sedan and is the most reasonable Audi car currently in India. It comes in a petrol and a diesel engine option which are mated to a 7 speed and 6 speed automatic transmission. The 7 speed gearbox comes in the 40 TFSI petrol variant while the 6 speed automatic comes in the 35 TDI diesel version. The Audi A3 sedan also has an optional S line versions which have a host of S line badging and accessories. These include door sills, illuminated vanity mirrors, storage and luggage compartment package, front fog light surrounds in high gloss black and radiator grille, S line badges on the front fenders, S line body styling and Xenon plus headlight package.

Audi A3 Exterior

The Audi A3 sedan comes in six colour options, Glacier White, Beluga Brown, Florett Silver, Scuba Blue, Brilliant Red and Misano Black. It also has option of two alloy wheel designs, a 16 inch 10 spoke and a 16 inch 15 spoke design. In the S line range, there are optional Xenon plus headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) and headlamp washers, LED tail lamps and indicators. The Audi A3 sedan also has a panoramic sunroof and it measures 4,456 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,416 mm in height.
Audi A3 Interior

The Audi A3 sedan has a dual tone dashboard, centre console and door panel theme which is available in a choice of dark and bright colour options. There is a choice of two infotainment systems where the lower versions get a 5.8 inch screen and the higher variants get a 7 inch screen. Both infotainment systems are connected to a touch panel circular knob with an 8 speaker system for the lower variants and a 10 speaker system with a front central speaker and a sub woofer. Boot space is ample and can accommodate 425 litres of luggage with the seats upright. After folding the rear seats, the boot volume increases to 880 litres.
Audi A3 Engine

Powering the Audi A3 sedan are a choice of a petrol and a diesel engine options. The 40 TFSI petrol engine generates 180 hp of power from 5,100 rpm to 6,200 rpm and 250 Nm of torque from 1,250 rpm to 5,000 rpm. The top speed of this version is 250 kmph and the 100 kmph from standstill comes in 7.3 seconds. The 35 TDI diesel engine produces 143 hp of power from 3,500 rpm to 4,000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm to 3,000 rpm. The top speed of the Audi A3 diesel version is 215 kmph and 100 kmph from zero is achieved in 8.6 seconds.
Audi A3 Transmission

The Audi A3 sedan has two gearbox options. The petrol engine is mated to a 7 speed S tronic automatic transmission while the diesel engine is mated to a 6 speed S tronic automatic transmission. Both transmissions are a dual clutch setup which is used in most Audi cars for seamless gear changes and minimal shift shocks.
Audi A3 Braking and Safety

In terms of safety, the Audi A3 sedan comes with reverse parking sensors with camera and guidelines, airbags, ABS (Anti lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and BA (Brake Assist). Some of these features are available in the top end trim only.

The Audi A3 sedan has a rated fuel efficiency of 16.60 kmpl for the petrol version and 20.38 kmpl for the diesel variants. Considering the unlaiden weight of 1,295 kg for the petrol trims and 1,340 rpm for the diesel versions, these fuel efficiency figures are reasonable.
