Tesla might be the most recognized brand in the world of electric vehicles, but it is the Chinese company, BYD Auto (Build Your Dream), that’s in pole position. BYD surpassed Tesla in global sales last year. The Shenzen-based EV company is now gearing up to launch its third car in India, the Seal EV, on March 5. Currently, the company’s portfolio consists of the Atto 3 and e6 MPV. BYD has already uploaded the Seal EV’s information on their official India website.
BYD Seal EV: Exteriors
The Seal EV makes quite a style statement with its sweeping design. Therefore, it has an impressive aero drag coefficient of 0.219Cd. With dimensions like 2,920mm wheelbase and 4,800mm length, the EV sedan is longer than the Toyota Innova Crysta. In terms of width and height, the Seal EV is 1,875mm and 1,460mm respectively. It has a boot space of 400 litres and a 53 litres cargo volume for the frunk. The e-sedan is based on e-Platform 3.0.
BYD Seal EV: Features
The Seal EV’s cabin houses a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s instrument cluster. It gets an all-glass roof, heated front seats and advanced driver assistance features like Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, etc.Â

BYD Seal EV: Performance
The Seal EV is expected to be powered by an 82kWh battery with a range of 570 km WLTP. It is powered by two motors on each axle and has a total output of 523bhp and 670Nm. The Seal is an all-wheel-drive system, that does 0-100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 180 kmph. With a 150 kW DC charger, it juices up from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in 26 minutes.
The Seal will be a direct import EV and is expected to be priced at around Rs 50 lakh. The BYD EV sedan will go up against the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.
