First, Tesla faced a drastic fall in global sales, and now the Elon Musk-led company gas been forced to temporarily halt the deliveries of the Cybertruck. According to a media report, Tesla delivery agents have confirmed that the company has suspended the sales of the vehicle because the glued metal body panels are falling off.
Panic-stricken Cybertruck customers
According to the Electrek website, many customers who have pre-booked the Cybertruck have received an intimidation alert from Tesla stating a ‘containment hold’ as the reason for the delay in the deliveries. This basically means that a newly manufactured vehicle is temporarily held back from delivery because an issue or defect has been identified. This problem needs to be resolved to ensure the vehicle is safe, reliable, and ready for customers before it hits the road.
Another buyer shared a screenshot from Tesla’s service app where a Tesla representative explained that the issue was linked to the Cybertruck’s “cantrail trim.” The cantrail trim is a decorative piece that covers the roof panel of a vehicle.
Electrek has contradicted Tesla’s claim that the Cybertruck is ‘bulletproof’ as it is based on an ‘exoskeleton’ architecture. The report stated that the Tesla EV is based on a ‘traditional unibody system’
Cybertruck dogged with issues: Not for the first time
This is not the first time the Cybertruck has come under the scanner. Earlier, there were reports of body panels dangling due to cold weather conditions. Last year, Tesla issued a voluntary recall for the Cybertruck due to an accelerator pedal assembly issue. This issue affected 2024 Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024. Affected vehicles may have an accelerator pedal pad that can dislodge under high force, potentially trapping the pedal against the interior trim.
