Tesla has been under the pump with its low sales. The Elon Musk-led company launched a Model Y update in January this year, but it didn’t help ignite the company’s numbers. Reports suggest that Tesla has plans to launch a cheaper version of the Model Y. Today, we are not talking about that version. Rather the Model Y’s upcoming top-of-the-line Performance was caught testing at Nurburgring, Germany. Here’s all you need to know about the new Model Y Performance.
Model Y Performance: What to expect?
Based on the images posted by Car Scoops the Model Y Performance looks almost the same as the standard version. There are a couple of updates that did manage to stand out like a new set of 21-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres, which were inspired by the Model S Plaid. If you have eagle-like eyes then you will notice that the Model Y Performance sports red calipers in the front tyres. To enhance its sporty credentials, the sports rear spoiler gives it a bad-boy look. As the electric vehicle was fully camouflaged, the Performance’s badging was hidden.
Model Y Performance: Blistering pace
Currently, the Model Y is available in two trims — Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive, which come standard with 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear-wheel drive version offers a driving range of 574 kmph, does 0 – 100 km in 5.4 seconds and if supercharged in 15 minutes then it has a range of around 293 km. The all-wheel drive variant does 0 – 100 kmph in 4.6 seconds and has a driving range of 526 km. With a quick supercharge, it offers a range of 272 km.Â
The Model Y Performance is expected to offer better figures. According to Car Scoops, the Model Y Performance is expected to get a 79 kWh battery with an output of around 503 bhp and 751 Nm and could go from a standstill to 100 kmph in just over 3 seconds. The Model Y Performance is expected to be launched in the last quarter of this year.
