There’s been a lot of buzz around Mahindra’s first born electric mid-size SUV, the BE 6. The Indian automaker has received praise for the BE 6’s design, features, cutting-edge battery technology, and its driving range. But with success also comes some backlash, especially on social media platforms, and Mahindra is no stranger to it.

Recently, a video began circulating online showing a Mahindra BE 6 involved in a collision with a Datsun Go+ in Hyderabad. The footage revealed the Japanese hatchback rear-ending the electric SUV, which then stalled after the impact. Naturally, the internet was quick to jump to conclusions, speculating that the stall was caused by a sensor issue.

However, Mahindra has issued an official statement, denying any truth to the claims of a sensor malfunction. Now, let’s break down the incident and take a closer look at Mahindra’s clarification.

BE 6 crash goes viral: Mahindra’s official response

A Mahindra BE 6 got rear-ended by a Datsun Go+ in Hyderabad, and of course, the internet did what it does best —jumped straight into conspiracy mode. The video that went viral showed the BE 6 sporting a few minor scratches and a slight bump at best, while the Datsun Go+ was left looking like it had just survived a demolition derby — front right side wrecked including the bumper and the headlight cluster.

Now, you might not remember this, but the Datsun Go+ scored a one-star rating in the Global NCAP crash safety tests back in 2017. So, it’s safe to say, it’s not a well-built car.

Back to the accident—when the Traffic Police arrived, both drivers were asked to take their cars to the nearest station. The Go+ was seen driving away, while the BE 6 stayed parked on the side of road. The folks on social media started claiming cars these days are like gadgets on wheels and that electric SUVs are now too sensitive for the real world.

Mahindra released an official statement — “We categorically state that these claims are baseless and incorrect. The vehicle’s stoppage was not related to any sensor failure as being claimed in the video. Following the collision, the car was immediately moved to the side of the road, clearly demonstrating its functionality. Given that there was a collision, the vehicle was appropriately transported to the dealership for inspection.”

Mahindra BE 6 tops Bharat NCAP crash test

Mahindra BE 6 recently had aced the Bharat NCAP crash tests, scoring a perfect 5-star rating. The electric SUV earned top marks for both adult and child occupant safety, with 31.97 out of 32 points for adult protection and 45 out of 49 points for child safety.

What’s even more impressive? The Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) score of the BE 6 is the second highest ever in Bharat NCAP history, just behind Mahindra’s flagship EV, the XEV 9e.
