This could be straight out of a Hollywood sci-fi movie but then trust Elon Musk to come up with something quite spectacular as the event took place at Warners Bros Discovery Studio in California. As expected, there was a lot of pomp as an astronaut chaperoned the CEO of Tesla to the much-awaited Cybercab concept. The futuristic robotaxi sports eye-catching gullwing doors. At the event, Musk stated that Tesla is ready to take that step from supervising Full Self-Driving (FSD) vehicles to unsupervised Full Self-Driving vehicles. Musk said, “We do expect to start fully unsupervised autonomous FSD in Texas and California next year.”
What is Cybercab?
Tesla’s Cybercab is a full autonomous vehicle that doesn’t need any human mediation or the need to stay alert. The first thing one will notice is the robotaxi does not have a steering wheel or even pedals. The cabin space is two passengers, hence, it is a two-door Gullwing vehicle. The icing on the cake is that the Cybercab does not have a charging port. Musk explained that it can be charged wirelessly.
The robotaxi market requires billions of dollars of investment due to the cutting edge technology. Musk has a solution for that as he said that Tesla will stick to a simple combination of cameras and artificial intelligence to operate.Â
Robovan is going to be a reality
At Tesla’s We, Robot event, the Robovan officially dropped cover. It is an all-electric autonomous van that can ferry up to 20 people. Musk kept a tight-lipped on the Robovan but he did confirm that it will manufactured and it’s not merely a concept. The Robovan brings back the traditional boxy design with stylish metallic side panels. The cabin has a clean design with a flexible seating layout. It will be equipped with the latest version of FSD by Tesla.
Optimus robot: The showstopper
Tesla unveiled the humanoid Optimus robot that is aimed to carry out multiple tasks like babysitting, mowing the lawn, walking your dog etc. Musk revealed that the price of the Optimus robot would be in the region between $20,000 to $30,000. The robot also did some additional movements like handing out bags and waving at people while an Optimus model was even playing the rock-paper-scissors game.
