Tesla commenced deliveries of the first batch deliveries of the 2025 Model Y at its factories in Texas and Fremont in the U.S. The Elon Musk-led electric vehicle company posted the images of the handover of the new Model Y. Top Tesla executives like the head of design Franz von Holzhausen congratulated the new Model Y owners. The official Tesla account on X (formerly Twitter) posted — Celebrating first deliveries of the new Model Y at Giga Texas & Fremont Factory. Based on the report by Cox Automotive, the Model Y was the best-selling EV in the U.S. registering 3,73,000 units.
2025 Tesla Model Y: What to expect?
The new Model Y starts from $46,490 and comes standard with the Full Self-Driving (Supervised). This includes incentives worth $7,500. It is available in four colour options — Stealth Grey, Pearl White, Ultra Red and Quicksilver. According to Tesla, the new Model Y offers a driving range of 526 km and a top speed of 201 kmph.
The Model Y is a compact SUV designed with a spacious cabin, generous boot and frunk storage, and a towing capacity of over 1,500 kg. Its all-glass roof minimizes sun glare while enhancing the open feel of the interior. The centrepiece of the dashboard is a 15.4-inch infotainment system, though the absence of a traditional instrument cluster may require some adjustment. With a ground clearance of 172 mm, the Model Y strikes a balance between city driving and light off-road capability.
The Tesla Model Y offers Full Self-Driving (Supervised) capability, allowing it to autonomously navigate to a destination at speeds up to 150 kmph. This includes handling complex driving scenarios like turns, intersections, highway manoeuvres, and stops. However, driver supervision is mandatory, requiring hands on the wheel and constant awareness.
Elon Musk outrage in the U.S. and Europe
Protests took place at several Tesla facilities in the U.S. in New York and Portland, Oregon, where chants like “Elon Musk has to go”. Based on a New York Times report, protestors in Manhattan chanted “Oligarchs out, democracy in”. This trend also continued across Europe in Barcelona, Lisbon and London.
