Ola Electric has made a comeback, regaining its position as the number one electric two-wheeler company in January 2025. Despite some prematurely written obituaries for the Indian startup, Ola has silenced its critics by surging ahead to claim the top spot from TVS Motor. In a surprising turn of events, Bajaj Auto, which had held the title of the leading EV company in December 2024, dropped to third place in January 2025. According to VAHAN data, Ola registered an impressive 24,341 units in January, capturing 25 per cent of the market share.
In an official statement, Ola Electric, stated —“It has been an impressive start to the year for us as we emerged as a clear leader in the EV 2W industry yet again. While we are committed to further cementing our position in the segment, our recently launched Gen-3 portfolio has set new benchmarks in performance and reliability across the 2W industry in India.”
Beyond scooters: Ola Electric’s expansion plans
Ola Electric has been burning the midnight oil to maintain its leadership in the electric two-wheeler (EV 2W) segment, following a challenging 2024. Throughout the year, the company struggled to keep pace as competitors like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto made significant gains. Year-on-year, Ola’s performance showed a decline of around 25 per cent, highlighting the tough road the company faced.
However, Ola is making a strong comeback with the confirmation of its highly anticipated electric motorcycle, the Roadster range, set to launch on February 5 in Bengaluru. The Roadster will be available in three variants — Roadster, Roadster X, and Roadster Pro. The Roadster X comes with three battery pack options — 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh. The mid-tier Roadster will offer 3.5 kWh, 4.5 kWh, and 6 kWh options, while the top-of-the-line Roadster Pro will be available with either an 8 kWh or a massive 16 kWh battery pack.
