Bajaj is working on a more affordable Chetak, as Rakesh Sharma, the executive director of Bajaj Auto revealed. Currently, Bajaj has two variants of the Chetak on sale, the Urbane, priced at Rs 1.23 lakh ex-showroom, and Premium, priced at Rs 1.43 lakh, ex-showroom.
With Ather and Ola slashing their EV prices, Bajaj is also looking at something similar, most probably opting for a hub-driven motor. The upcoming affordable Chetak EV may also skimp down on equipment, such as using drum brakes on both ends and opting for a black and white LCD console without connectivity features.
There is also a possibility of Bajaj using a smaller battery pack, however, this is only an assumption at the moment. The test mule of the more affordable variant of the Chetak has been seen testing and it features the same design as the other Chetak variants.
