In an interesting turn of events, Volvo has discontinued its flagship seda– the S90 – from its India lineup. The current-gen S90 received its first facelift in 2021 and a second facelift earlier in April this year. The Swedish carmaker has delisted the S90 from its India website stating it’s no longer on sale.
This leaves Volvo with only four cars in its Indian portfolio comprising two combustion engine cars and fully-electric models each. These include all SUVs such as XC40, XC90, EX40 and EC40. The S90 was locally assembled in India, and its last recorded price was Rs 68.25 lakh (ex-showroom). At this point, Volvo hasn’t confirmed if the S90 will return to sale or not.
Volvo S90: Features & Specs
Volvo S90 came loaded with features like a 19-speaker 1,400W Bowers and Wilkins audio system, a 360-degree camera, an Android-based touchscreen infotainment system four-zone climate control, massage and ventilated front seats, air purifier, and air suspension. In terms of safety, the S90 boasted of a Level 2 advanced driver safety system that consisted of features like blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

Powering the Volvo S90 was a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain returned 246 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque.
Volvo S90: Will it return?
Internationally, the facelifted Volvo S90 is available in multiple powertrain options including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid. Volvo also unveiled the all-electric equivalent of the S90 earlier in March this year. The ES90 comes equipped with a 106 kWh battery that promises a range of up to 700km on a single charge. While Volvo hasn’t confirmed its launch in India, its commitment to EVs makes the ES90 a possible contender in the future.
Meanwhile, Volvo is gearing up to launch the all-electric EX30 SUV in India by the end of this year. The Swedish carmaker is even contemplating on locally assembling this model in India. This is likely to be followed by the E90 all-electric flagship SUV sometime next year.
