Volkswagen is set to unveil a new subcompact SUV in Brazil soon which was recently teased a couple of days ago. The SUV will be manufactured in Brazil and exported to other South American markets. It is expected to make its debut sometime later this month.
Although the German carmaker is yet to officially reveal the name of this SUV, the brand has started a new campaign where audiences get to guess the car’s name which is a five-letter word. In the same campaign, Volkswagen has hinted at multiple names such as ‘Taira, ‘Thera’, ‘Cosmo’, ‘Copan’, ‘Sirus’, and ‘Taigo’ to name a few.
This new SUV is most likely to be based on Skoda Kylaq— which is slated to make its India debut sometime in early 2025.Similarly, after breaking covers over the next couple of weeks, the upcoming subcompact VW SUV will go on sale in early 2025. The teaser shares a partial glimpse of the SUV with most parts camouflaged under a shadow.

However, what is evident are the sleek LED DRL pattern along the width of the front fascia, a signature treatment seen on modern VW models. The bumper looks slightly different from the India-spec Volkswagen Taigun with a large portion of it taken up by the gloss black grille for the air dam. Other than this, no significant visual details can be deduced at this point in time.
Will it launch in India?
Earlier this year, during its annual general conference, Volkswagen Brand Director, Ashish Gupta, clearly stated that they are now looking to introduce models in the upper premium segment and a sub-4 metre model below the likes of Taigun and Virtus seems highly improbable. The sub-4 metre SUV space in India is very crowded with almost every OEM looking for a share of the pie.
The next big SUV to come out in this segment will be the Skoda Kylaq. Based on the MQB A0 IN architecture, test mules of the subcompact SUV have been spied on numerous occasions over the past few months. Maybe Volkswagen will make a U-turn if the Kylag gets a good response in India but this new subcompact SUV in Brazil seems unlikely to reach our shores.
