Toyota Taisor launched as Starlet Cross in South Africa, here’s what it gets

The new Starlet Cross launched in South Africa identical to the Toyota Taisor is to be available in new colours.

Made-in-India Toyota Taisor has been launched in South Africa as Starlet Cross with several identical features but with different colour options. The Starlet Cross, like the Taisor, has the up front Innova Hycross-like grille with a chrome strip and has LED highlights placed in a housing below. It has a neatly styled 5 spoke alloys on wheels and sloping roofline giving it overall a nice look. 

In terms of dimensions, 3995 mm long, 1550 mm high, 1765 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2520 mm. The ground clearance is 170mm. The 5-seater crossover – Starlet Cross with global modifications of the Taisor model is aimed at young drivers. The similarities and differences between Toyota Taisor and Starlet Cross are mentioned below.

Color options

The colors available for Taisor are Lucent Orange, Gaming Grey and the ones available in dual tone are Sportin red, Cafe White and Enticing Silver. The color options available for Starlet Cross are Fine Orange, Mystic Pearl White, Galaxy blue, Shadow Grey, Sonic Black Pearl, Luxe Red with Black Roof and Premium Liquid Silver which is available in dual tone.

Interior Design

The dashboard layout and design is identical between the two but the color schemes used on the dashboard are different. While the Taisor gets a black/maroon dashboard with the same gold coloured inserts, the Starlet Cross gets a black/brown dashboard with champagne gold inserts.

The features on the dashboard which are identical between both models are listed as well. The Toyota Starlet Cross includes 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, head up display, cruise control, keyless entry with push button start and steering wheel mounted audio controls. It also comes with safety for the occupants which includes 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, 360 degree camera with rear parking sensors and electronic stability control.

Engine Options

The Taisor in India has 1.2l naturally aspirated and 1l turbo-petrol engines. The Starlet Cross has a 1.5l gasoline engine with a capacity of 105 HP. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4 speed torque converter automatic transmission options.

Price Range

The India spec Taisor is priced from Rs. 7.74 lakh to Rs. 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom). The South African spec Starlet Cross is priced from R 299,900 to R 359,300 (approximately Rs. 13.69 lakh to Rs. 16.4 lakh). The Taisor in India begins to compete with Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
