SUVs are driving the automobile sector forward, with a significant 63 per cent growth last month compared to April 2023. Since January 2024, SUVs have consistently ranked among the top three vehicles sold in India, and a mini SUV has topped the sales charts for the past two months. As the demand for SUVs surges, let’s explore the top five most powerful SUVs available for under Rs 10 lakh.

Mahindra XUV 3X0

The Mahindra 3X0 is the new kid in the block segment. The XUV 3X0 retains the XUV300’s engine, hence, the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine produces 109 bhp and best-in-class 200 Nm of torque. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Mahindra SUV comes standard with four disc brakes.

The 3X0 is based on the longest wheelbase in its segment, which translates into a roomy cabin. The top model of the XUV 3X0 is equipped with tons of features like a 10.2-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-speaker Harman Kardon system with a subwoofer, and connected tech. It also gets a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, 65 W USB-C charging and electronic parking brake.

Tata Nexon 

The Tata Nexon is one the best-selling sub 4 metre SUV. It is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that churns out 118bhp and 170Nm. This makes the Nexon the most powerful SUV in its class. The Tata SUV is the only vehicle to offer four different transmission options — a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and a six-speed AMT.

The Nexon sports twin 10.25-inch displays for a touch screen and a digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system gets wireless connectivity and Tata’s IRA-connected tech. The other features it gets are a 360-degree camera, a 9-speaker JBL music system and tyre pressure monitoring system. It comes standard with six airbags and ESP.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza 

Maruti Suzuki sells the Brezza in bucket loads as it was the third most successful vehicle in April 2024. The company registered sales of 17,113 units, which is a 45 per cent increase when compared to April 2023. The Brezza gets the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 102 bhp and 136.8 Nm of torque. The 4-cylinder engine has an integrated starter generator and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

The Brezza has a decent list of features like a sunroof, a 9-inch touch screen, a head-up display, a wireless phone charger, an Arkamys sound system and a 360-degree camera. In terms of safety, it has six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist and ABS with EBD and Brake Assist.

Nissan Magnite 

The Nissan Magnite is available in two engines, the 1-litre naturally aspirated and the 1-litre turbo. We will highlight the turbo as the three-cylinder power plant churns out a healthy 99 bhp and 160 Nm of torque. The turbo is available in a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. According to the company, the former transmission returns 20 kmpl while the latter 17.7 kmpl.

Renault Kiger

Even though both Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite are virtually the same vehicles, the French manufacturer’s SUV is priced a bit more premium. In terms of design, the Kiger boasts a sporty road presence.

The top model gets a 7-inch digital driver’s console, 6-speaker Arkamy’s music system, an 8-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leatherette fabric seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and cruise control with the turbo version. The Kiger is powered by a 1-litre turbo engine with an output of 99 bhp and 160 Nm, which is available with a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic.
