2023 witnessed a plethora of launches in the electric vehicle space which indicate the rising demands for EVs in India. Out of the host of new EVs launched this year, we have shortlisted a few models as the top electric car launches for 2023. Let us check the following all-new EVs launched this year.

Mahindra XUV400

The year started with the launch of Mahindra XUV400 which is the all-electric derivative of the XUV300. The compact electric SUV is priced Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards and is offered with two battery options– a 34.5 kWh unit and a 39.4 kWh unit in the EC and EL variants, with an estimated peak range of 375 km and 456 km, respectively. 

Mahindra XUV400

Interestingly, both these units produce a common output of 150 bhp and 310 Nm of torque. It directly rivals the Tata Nexon.ev.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

The next big launch in the EV space was Hyundai Ioniq 5. Available as a CKD import in India, the premium electric crossover is priced at Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Powered by a 72.6 kWh battery pack that offers an ARAI-rated range of 631 on a single charge, the battery sends energy to a single electric motor driving the rear wheels and delivering a peak output of 214 bhp and 350 Nm of torque.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Citroen eC3

Citroen launched the fully electric version of C3 crossover– eC3– in February this year at a starting price of Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Powered by a 29.2 kWh battery pack, it offers a claimed single-charge range of 320 km. The battery supplies energy to an electric motor that churns out 56 bhp and 143 Nm of peak torque. 

MG Comet EV

MG Motor launched the funky and ultra compact Comet EV earlier in May this year. A rebranded Wuling Air, prices for the Comet start at Rs 7.98 lakh and go up to Rs 9.98 lakh (both ex-showroom). The tallboy battery-powered micro hatch gets a relatively small 17.3 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 230 km on a single charge. This battery delivers energy to an electric motor powering the rear wheels delivering a peak output of 41 bhp and 110 Nm.

Mercedes Benz EQE

Mercedes Benz launched the all-new EQE 4Matic+ electric SUV in India at a whopping price tag of Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom) in September this year. Powering it are newly developed permanently excited synchronous motors– one on each axle– that dish out a combined peak output of 300 kW (408 bhp) and torque of 858 Nm.  The motors derive energy from a 90.6 kWh battery pack which offers a claimed WLTP range of 550 km on a single charge.

Mercedes EQE front

BMW iX1

Based on the third-gen X1, BMW introduced the iX1 in India at a price of 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The all-electric SUV is a fully imported CBU model with a twin-motor setup– each motor powering one axle– developing a combined peak output of 309 bhp and 494 Nm torque. The twin motors derive their energy from a  66.4kWh battery pack that returns a claimed range of 440 km on a single charge.

BMW iX1 feature

Audi Q8 e-tron, e-tron Sportback

Offered with a 114kWh battery pack, the Audi Q8 55 e-tron and Audi Q8 Sportback 55 e-tron have a driving range of up to 600 km on a single charge (WLTP certified). The Audi Q8 50 e-tron and Audi Q8 Sportback 50 e-tron offer a driving range of up to 505 km on a single charge (WLTP certified). Prices for the Q8 e-Tron series starts at Rs 1.13 crore and goes up to Rs 1.30 crore (both ex-showroom).
