Tesla Robotaxis — What was right and what went wrong

The Tesla Robotaxis are all over the news — Tesla fans loved it, while some critics did their rightful job. The Tesla Robotaxis hit the streets of Austin on June 22, and there have been multiple feedbacks on how things went. Based on various user reports, here are the things the Tesla Robotaxi did right and what went seriously wrong for the US EV maker.

Tesla Robotaxis — What were the positives?

Business Insider has seen several videos posted by users on their rides, and based on their report, the app seems to be straightforward, similar to Uber, and the app experience is smooth. Also, the app exits you as soon as you finish the ride to keep data safe and when taking another ride, it automatically logs you in.

That said, speaking about the ride itself, the driverless cars are able to make smooth turns, while maintaining a consistent distance from the car ahead. The car is also able to switch lanes effectively and choose a lane with less traffic, while also braking for pedestrians and cyclists. There is one video that also shows how the self-driving Tesla managed to get out of a tricky parking spot.

Tesla Robotaxis — What went wrong?

Videos show a Tesla Robotaxi driving on the wrong side of the road, which puts other users in danger, while in another incident, the taxi signalled left at an intersection, however, when approached the intersection, it decided to go straight instead. There were also instances when the car exceeded the speed limit.

Other complaints came from users who wanted to stop the ride mid-way, a function that prompts the taxi to pull over safely on the side to let the passengers out, however, the car stopped abruptly. There was also an instance when the taxi pulled into a handicapped spot to pick up customers.
