Tesla Model Y now available across India: Enthusiasm and frustration ride high online

It feels like a lifetime, but Tesla has now finally launched in India. After making its debut on July 15 in Mumbai, a week later, the Elon Musk-led electric vehicle company announced that the Model Y can now be directly booked across the country on the official Tesla website. Tesla India posted on social media stating, “Now everyone in India can order directly on our website,” but giving priority deliveries to Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Gurugram. Netizens took to social media, sharing their joy, anticipation, frustration and even humour.

Netizens roast Tesla online

With a lot of hype surrounding the Tesla Model Y launch, many were disappointed with the steep pricing. This was something that was expected, and Express Drives had reported that due to the made-in-China Model Y, it attracts high import duties.

With ultra-luxury pricing, Ehraz Ahmed(@ehrazahmedd) posted X, formerly Twitter, “76 lakhs on road for a freaking Model Y LOLLL!! DEAD ON ARRIVAL. Model Y, a car driven mostly by purple haired aunties and uncles battling midlife crisis in the US. Absolutely dead on arrival in India at this price point.”

Deepak (@ItsDeepakR) questioned the additional cost of colour option, interior cabin and Full Self-Driving option for a total amount of an extra Rs 8 lakh. He said, “You want exterior colour selection, add 1L extra!! You want interior colour selection, add 1L extra!! Full self-driving 6L extra!!”

Some looked at the funny side of all this and roasted Tesla. Varun Singh (@Varun_singh0291) posted, “Any Exchange offer or Any Cashback”. While Yash Lahoti (@YvLahoti) said, “Is cash on delivery available?”
