The Tata Tiago will be made available in two all-new engines – 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel and 1.2-litre Revotron petrol.
The Tata Zica will be called the ‘Tiago’, confirms the Indian automobile major. For people not in the know, the company decided to drop the ‘Zica’ name due to its resemblance with the ‘Zika’ Virus. To choose the new name, the company launched a name hunt contest ‘Fantastico’ and asked people to suggest a new name for the car. The company also announced that it will launch the much-awaited hatchback by the end of March 2016.
The company received over 37,000 names from people in the three-day activity, and three names were finally shortlisted – Adore (Uh-dohr), Civet (Siv-it) and Tiago (T ee – ah – goh). The final name was also selected through voting, where people were asked to choose their favourite name among the three.
Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, “We are delighted with the response and support we have received from our well-wishers across the globe through the Fantastico Name Hunt campaign. We are proud to announce the new name – TIAGO for our next new hatchback. We have begun working towards launching this stylish car and are determined to place it in the market addressing all relevant needs of the target audience.”
The Tata Tiago is based on the company’s new design language IMPACT that will be used for other future Tata products as well including the Kite 5 sedan. With prominent character lines on sides, wrap-around headlamps, Tata’s new signature grille with the ‘Humanity Line’, 14-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and other styling elements, the Tiago is one of the better looking Tata cars in the current lineup.
The Tata Tiago will be made available in two all-new engines – 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel and 1.2-litre Revotron petrol. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the petrol engine of the Tiago churns out 84bhp at 6,000rpm and 114Nm at 3,500rpm, the diesel engine produces 69bhp and 140Nm.
The Tata Tiago will be made available in a total of six colour options – Platinum Silver, Sunburst Orange, Striker Blue, Espresso Brown Pearlescent White and Berry Red. The buyers will also get several customization options to style the car as per their need and taste.
