Tata Harrier to get three engine options in FY26

Tata Motors’ full-size SUV, the Harrier, will feature a petrol engine for the first time. Here’s all the details we have so far.

Tata Motors will soon offer the Harrier in three different powertrains, including the recently launched all-electric version. Apart from the tried-and-tested diesel engine, the Harrier, followed by Safari, for the first time will be available in petrol. Showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata Motors will finally launch the new 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine (TGDi) with the Harrier. The Harrier turbo petrol is expected to break cover in Q4 FY26. 

Tata Harrier: New 1.5-litre turbo petrol

Tata Motors unveiled two TGDi engines at the Auto Expo 2023 — the 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines. The 1.2-litre TGDi made its debut with the Tata Curvv and has an output of 123 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 225 Nm at 1,750 – 3,000 rpm. The new engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. 

The bigger and more powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol will first make its debut with the Harrier and later with the Safari. The 1,498cc 4-cylinder powertrain makes 168 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm at 2,000 – 3,000 rpm. The 1.5-litre turbo is expected to also offer two transmission options — a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. 

The 2-litre engine churns out 168 bhp at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm at 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. It is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter transmission. 

Tata Harrier EV: Specifications

The Harrier EV is available in two battery options — 65 kWh and 75 kWh. It is available in two versions — rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version is powered by a 156 bhp front motor and a 235 bhp rear motor with a total of 504 Nm. It offers multiple drive modes — Eco, City, Sport and Boost. It also comes with six terrain modes — Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom. With a 120 kW DC fast charger, the Harrier juices from  20% to 80% in 25 minutes. The 7.2 kW AC charges from 10% to 100% in 10.7 hours. As per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 Cycle, the Harrier EV has a driving range of 622 km on a single charge.
