Tata Altroz is one of the most favoured hatchbacks currently on sale in India. The premium hatch has been appreciated for its strong dynamics aided by the addition of a turbocharged petrol engine earlier this year. At the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata Motors showcased the Altroz Racer in one of its podiums.

The Racer will be the sportiest variant of the Altroz lineup and will come with a few critical upgrades over the other trims. Since its showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year, there hasn’t been any update on the Altroz Racer. Until now, when a test mule of the same was spotted testing in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.

Let us take a look at the Tata Altroz Racer and what we can expect from the upcoming hot hatch.

Tata Altroz Racer: Sportier styling

While the design will remain unchanged, the Altroz Racer will get sportier visual touches including a dual-tone paint scheme featuring blacked-out front grille, air dam, bonnet, alloy wheels, pillars and window sills, ORVMs, and tailgate. Other critical visual touches include white race stripes, a roof-mounted spoiler, a shark fin antenna, and a ‘Racer’ badge on the front fender.

Tata Altroz Racer: Sportier interiors, features

Like the sportier touches on its exterior, interiors of the Altroz Racer will follow suit with an all-black cabin theme complemented  by red accents to give the cabin a sportier contrast. The red accents are highlighted across the dashboard, AC vents, centre console, seats and centre armrest.

We expect the same set of features as the top-spec Altroz to be offered in Altroz racer. The display model at the Auto Expo 2023 came equipped with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charger, digital instrument cluster, air purifier, ventilated front seats, voice-enabled electric sunroof, and six airbags.

But the most important upgrade in the Altroz Racer will be under its hood. It will get the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the Altroz iTurbo. However, it will come with a higher state of tune that will pump out 118 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque, 10 bhp and 30 Nm over the Altroz iTurbo. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox likely to be offered as standard.
