Skoda has officially confirmed the launch of a new subcompact SUV in India. In a recent media gathering, the Czech carmaker confirmed that it will be launching a new sub-4 metre SUV by March 2025 as part of its India 2.5 programme. In the same event, Skoda presented a small teaser of the upcoming crossover.
Skoda sub-compact SUV: Underpinnings & Rivals
The sub-4 metre SUV space is undoubtedly one of the most competitive and crowded segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The yet unnamed SUV will be based on the MQB A0 IN architecture, hence, one can expect high degrees of localisation for the upcoming vehicle. This will help Skoda price it aggressively against rivals like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and others.

It will be the first sub-4 metre vehicle from Skoda in India ever since the premium hatchback Fabia was discontinued in 2017. During the presentation, Skoda shared a quick glance of the SUV featuring a sculpted hood, split lighting setup with sleek LED DRL on top, flared wheel arches, and roof rails. The Skoda logo is slammed right at the centre just above the signature Butterfly grille.
Skoda sub-compact SUV: Expected name, powertrain
While Skoda didn’t disclose the name of the upcoming subcompact SUV, the company has proposed a host of names from which the final name will be chosen. These include Kylaq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kymaq, and Kwiq, each accompanied by a unique tagline highlighting its distinct characteristics.
Skoda fans can participate in the naming contest by sharing their suggestions on social media, choosing from the provided options or proposing a new name. The winner of the contest will receive the brand new subcompact SUV for free, while 10 lucky participants will be awarded a trip to Prague to visit the Skoda manufacturing plant.

The upcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out 114 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be carried out either by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
