Skoda names new compact SUV Kylaq

In 2025, the Czech automobile manufacturer will enter the sub-4-metre SUV segment for the first time with the Kylaq.

Skoda India has unveiled the name of its forthcoming sub-compact SUV: the Kylaq. In February 2024, the Czech carmaker initiated a campaign titled ‘Name Your Skoda’ for the new sub-4 meter SUV. The initiative received over 200,000 entries, from which the top ten names were shortlisted. The finalists will be rewarded with a trip to Prague, and the competition’s winner will
receive the first Kylaq to roll off the production line in 2025.

Skoda Kylaq: Design

The Kylag is built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which is manufactured in India. Like the Kushaq and the Slavia, it shares the same platform but the new SUV is shorter in length, measuring less than 4 meters in length. Skoda has dubbed the SUV’s design language as ‘Modern Solid.’ The Czech manufacturer has also confirmed that the Kylag will feature typical SUV
characteristics such as high ground clearance. The compact SUV will have a split headlamp design and a broad front grille, similar to the Kushaq. It is anticipated that the vehicle will utilize LED lighting throughout, including the headlamps, tail lights, and indicators.

Skoda Kylaq: Interiors

The cabin layout is expected to be similar to the Kushaq and Slavia, with the top model possibly featuring a 10-inch-plus infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, and a sunroof.

Regarding safety, the Kylag is likely to come with ADAS features, six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors and much more. Similar to the Slavia and Kushaq, the Kylag is expected to secure a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP safety tests.

Skoda Kylaq: Powertrain

The Kylag will offer a single powertrain, the 1-litre turbo petrol with an output of 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. It will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter transmission. The Kylaq will take on Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra 3X0, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
