Rolls Royce stepped into the luxury electric vehicle (EV) market in India by launching its current global flagship– Spectre. Priced at a whopping Rs 7.5 crore (ex-showroom), Rolls Royce claims that order books for Spectre are full till the end of 2024. The two-door all-electric coupe is considered as a spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupe.

Deliveries of the luxury battery-powered sedan in India already began in the last quarter of 2023. Making its global debut in October 2022, Spectre has undergone rigorous testing, covering an impressive 2.5 million kilometres. It is available in a single fully-loaded variant.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Design

Like all Roll Royce models, Spectre carries over signature visual elements like the trademark Pantheon front grille, which is now illuminated, dipped in chrome and the Spirit of Ecstasy on top. The grille is flanked by a split LED lighting setup with the ultra-slim DRLs placed above and the main headlamp cluster positioned below. It gets a familiar long bonnet, taking its overall length to a gigantic 5475 mm, making it the longest two-door vehicle in series production.

However, what distinguishes itself from its siblings is a fastback-style receding roofline, offering superior aerodynamics and reducing drag coefficient to 0.25. The taillamps are nestled inside the largest single-body panel ever produced for a Rolls-Royce, which extends from the A-pillar to the boot space.

Rolls-Royce has smartly left the vertical tail lamps colourless, giving its customers the option to select the paint scheme that catches their fancy. Riding on massive 23-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels ensures the Spectre has no shortage of road presence. The side profile is adorned with two distinct lines– one on the shoulder and one on the door sills called  the ‘waft line’ which is inspired by yachts.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Interior & Features

Like a typical Rolls Royce, the interiors of Spectre scream opulence embellished with bespoke materials. The dual-tone cabin now gets  the starlight liner on the door trims which were earlier limited to the roof. The passenger side dashboard panel with the illuminated Spectre nameplate is also surrounded by a cluster of over 5,500 star-like LED illuminations.

As expected, the cabin is loaded with tech including a large touchscreen infotainment with wireless mobile connectivity, and fully-digital instrument cluster that run on the brand’s latest software platform called– ‘SPIRIT’.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Powertrain

Powering the Spectre is a twin-motor setup which sources its energy from a 102kWh battery pack that claims to offer a range of 530 km on a single charge. This powertrain returns a combined peak output of 576 bhp and 900 Nm of torque. This allows the huge car to sprint from a standstill to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds.

On using a 195kW DC fast charger, this battery can be charged from 10-80% within 34 minutes. A 50kW DC fast charger will take 95 minutes. Based on Rolls Royce’s all-aluminium spaceframe architecture called Architecture of Luxury, the chassis on Spectre is claimed to be 30 percent stiffer than any of its siblings. It also comes with active suspension and four-wheel steering.
